Technicians shall complete initial training as outline by the pharmacist-in-charge which includes on-the-job and related education corresponding to the tasks they are to perform.
Per Oregon Administrative Rule 855-025-0012, all pharmacy technicians must become nationally certified. This means a Pharmacy Technician must become licensed as a Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician prior to the expiration of the license to continue working as a technician.

PHARMACY TECHNICAN
A pharmacy technician assists a pharmacist with the preparation of prescription medications for customers. He or she may receive written prescription requests from or may process requests doctors' offices that have been sent electronically or phoned in. A pharmacy technician generally performs the following duties. Pharmacy technicians may: Fill bottles with doctor-prescribed medications, type and apply labels with directions and other information for patients, and pre-pack bulk medications. Handle any required cash register operations. Resolve issues, concerns or complaints made by customers .Call doctors for prescription refill authorizations. Type up prescription information details to produce labels for packages. Keep detailed records of on-hand medications and other stock. Resolve any issues with patients' insurance coverage.
REQUIREMENTS
Initial application must be submitted online: declaration of citizenship form signed and notarized, a copy of their valid government issued identification, criminal background and license fee.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Pharmacy technicians typically need a high school diploma or equivalent. Many pharmacy technicians receive only on-the-job training, although many employers prefer to hire applicants who have attended a formal training program.
