You’re at a crossroads and deciding which career to choose – or you’re looking to change careers. You could spend four years of time and money at a university and still not have the best of prospects.

Some fields are expected to see better-than-average job growth, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In particular are those in the skilled trades, where you have the potential to bring in a good salary and make a comfortable living. (And you’re not stuck behind a desk all day.)

Take, for example, plumbers or electricians. The top performers in those jobs can make nearly $100,000 a year. HVAC technicians are expected to see 13% job growth through 2028. And carpenters are seeing a boon to their bottom line.
