Plumbing Contractor

Candidates for licensure must: Be at least 18 years of age. Pass the exam administered by the Commission. Either: Complete 4 years in an apprenticeship program approved by the Commission, OR Present evidence acceptable to the Commission of 4 years experience in the trade, OR Have 4 years work experience under the direction of a licensed plumber. Pay all application and examination fees. Have not been convicted of a crime nor have been subject to disciplinary action that would interfere with the ability to carry out professional duties. Apprenticeships and other non-licensed plumbing jobs have differing requirements. More detailed information may be obtained directly from the Indiana Plumbing Commission.

Journeyman Plumber

An applicant for the journeyman plumber license must pass the examination required under this section. The journeyman plumber examination shall be multiple choice. An individual must obtain a passing score on the multiple-choice test in order to pass the examination.

Plumbing Apprentice

To be approved, an apprenticeship program must do the following: (1) Submit a written request for approval to the commission. (2) Submit in writing the apprenticeship program's curriculum, which must include the: (A) subjects taught; and (B) hours spent teaching each subject. (3) Provide: (A) the address of the apprenticeship program facility; (B) its phone number; and (C) the name of a contact person. (4) Submit proof of the ccreditation required by section 1(2) of this rule. (5) Require the taking and passing of a practical examination as required by section 7.1 of this rule. (b) Approved apprenticeship programs must notify the commission of any change in the items listed in subsection (a)(2) through (a)(4) within thirty (30) days.

Temporary Plumbing Contractor

A temporary plumbing contractor license authorized by IC 25-28.5-1-18.5 shall be for six (6) month increments. Such temporary license shall not enable the holder thereof to perform actual plumbing services unless he is a currently licensed journeyman or a currently licensed plumbing contractor. However, the holder of a temporary license may employ a journeyman to perform actual plumbing services pursuant to the temporary license. If the holder is a licensed journeyman, he may perform plumbing contracting under the authority of the temporary license. The temporary license will be granted upon submission of the license fee in the amount of twenty-five dollars ($25) for each six (6) month increment, as well as a fully executed bond on a form supplied by the commission.

Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Inspector/Tester

Upon reviewing and finding the information certified by the training provider acceptable, the commissioner shall issue a registration number to each person whose training provider has certified that the applicant has met the following requirements of education and examination: (1) The information supplied by the applicant must be reviewed and acceptable to the training provider. (2) Each applicant shall attend forty (40) hours of education and successfully complete a written and oral examination for cross connection device inspectors administered by a training provider. The commissioner may revoke the registration of any cross connection control inspector, following a hearing under IC 4-21.5, if it is found that the inspector has violated: (1) any of the provisions set out in this rule; or (2) IC 13-18-11-8. The commissioner shall maintain a list entitled ""Indiana Registered Cross Connection Control Device Inspectors, All Inspectors"", which is comprised of cross connection control device inspectors registered in Indiana. The commissioner shall maintain a list entitled ""Indiana Registered Cross Connection Control Device Inspectors, Active Inspectors"", which is comprised of cross connection control device inspectors: (1) that are registered in Indiana in accordance with subsection (a); and (2) who have requested their inclusion on this list in writing to the commissioner during the previous two (2) years. The commissioner shall make the lists described in subsections (c) and (d) available to the public upon request.
