Residential plumbing inspectors conduct inspections and plan reviews on plumbing work ​performed in one- and two-family dwellings, townhouses, manufactured dwelling parks, recreational parks, organizational camps, and picnic parks.

Plumber Apprentice

This apprenticeship leads into a Journeyman Plumbers license. Plumbers assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings, medical gas systems and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers and water according to specifications and plumbing codes. They locate and mark the position of pipe, pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using ruler, spirit level and plumb bob. They cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and a threading machine. Plumbers also bend pipe using a pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over a block and bending it by hand, assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of various metals or glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, and use hand tools and power tools. Plumbers may weld holding fixtures to structures.

Backflow Assembly Tester Certification

The Department issues certification cards for Testers and Specialists on a 2-year certification cycle. Certifications expire on December 31st every two years based upon the first letter in the last name of the individual. Individuals with a last name beginning with A-K expire in even numbered years, and individuals with last names beginning with L-Z expire in odd numbered years.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Fitter's License

The following types of LPG Fitter's licenses are available: Master Fitter (covers all areas of LPG work, including fitting or venting work, install, repair or remodel of any piping or venting), HVAC Fitter (covers HVAC and hearth products), RV Fitter (covers all areas of recreational vehicles), and IC Fitter (covers internal combustion engines of forklifts and vehicles). To obtain an LPG Fitter's License, an individual must first apply to take the LPG Fitter examination. Upon passing the examination, the individual submits an Application for Liquefied Petroleum Gas Fitter's License along with the license fee.

Monitoring Well Constructor License

Any person who constructs, alters, or abandons monitoring wells for another person shall have a Monitoring Well Constructor License. Only Oregon licensed and bonded Monitoring Well Constructors may advertise services or enter into a contract, either written or oral, to construct, alter, convert, or abandon a monitoring well. To find a licensed and bonded (or unbonded) monitoring well constructor, please see ""Find a Well Constructor"" under Service Links. A start card is a ""Notice of Beginning of Well Construction"" and must be submitted prior to constructing, altering, deepening, abandoning, or converting a well. A fee of $225 is also required for construction of a new well, deepening of a well, or conversion of a well. A ""Monitoring Well Report"" (log) is required to be submitted within 30 days of completion of work.
