Beginner Electrician

Reason for Credential: Except as provided under s. 101.862 (4), Stats., no person as of April 1, 2013 may install, repair or maintain electrical wiring unless the person holds a license or registration issued by the department as a licensed master electrician, licensed residential master electrician, licensed journeyman electrician, licensed industrial journeyman electrician, licensed residential journeyman electrician, registered beginning electrician, registered electrical apprentice, registered industrial electrical apprentice or a registered residential electrical apprentice. Requirements of Credential: A person who holds a registration as a registered beginning electrician shall perform electrical wiring activities under the direct supervision of a person who holds a license either as a licensed master electrician or a licensed journeyman electrician.

Master Electrician

Reason for Credential: Except as provided under s. 101.862 (4), Stats., no person as of April 1, 2013 may install, repair or maintain electrical wiring unless the person holds a license or registration issued by the department as a licensed master electrician, licensed residential master electrician, licensed journeyman electrician, licensed industrial journeyman electrician, licensed residential journeyman electrician, registered beginning electrician, registered electrical apprentice, registered industrial electrical apprentice or a registered residential electrical apprentice. A person holding a master electrician certification may apply without examination for a commercial electrical inspector certification. Requirements of Credential: For any electrical installation that requires a uniform building permit under s. Comm 20.08, a person who holds a master electrician license may not commence installation of electrical wiring until a permit is issued for the installation.

Journeyman Electrician

Reason for Credential: A person who holds a credential issued by the department as a certified electrical contractor, certified electrical contractor-restricted, certified master electrician, certified journeyman electrician or certified beginning electrician may perform electrical construction work in a municipality which requires licensure to perform electrical work pursuant to s. 101.87 (2) to (4), Stats., and in accordance with local ordinances. Chapter Comm 5 establishes a statewide certification of electricians in various classes, master, journeyman and beginning, recognizing their knowledge and abilities. When an electrician certification is required and what category of certification is needed are determined by individual municipalities. A person holding a journeyman electrician certification may apply without examination for a UDC-electrical inspector certification.

Cross Connection Control Tester

Reason for Credential: Pursuant to s. 145.06 (3m), Stats., no person may conduct a performance test of a cross connection control device as required by s. Comm 82.21 (3) unless the person holds a credential issued by the department as a registered cross connection control tester. Requirements of Credential: A person who holds the credential shall carry on his or her person the credential issued by the department while performing or conducting the activity or activities permitted under the credential. Qualifications for Credential: A person applying for a cross connection control device tester registration shall have completed at least 40 hours in an approved course or courses in the theory of cross connection control, the operation, testing and maintenance of cross connection control devices, and the national standards for these cross connection control devices.

Commercial Electrical Inspector

Reason for Credential: Pursuant s. 101.88 (2), Stats., no person may conduct the inspection of electrical installations in public buildings and places of employment for the purpose of administering and enforcing ch. Comm 16 unless the person holds a credential issued by the department as a certified commercial electrical inspector. A person holding a commercial electrical inspector certification can inspect one- and two-family dwellings. Requirements of Credential: A person who inspects electrical construction work as a certified commercial electrical inspector shall: Maintain a record of the inspections made including the dates and the findings of the inspections; Provide a copy of the inspection report to the property owner or his or her agent; and make available to the department upon request his or her inspection records.

Designer Of Engineering Systems – Electrical

A designer of engineering systems is an individual engaged in the preparation of plans and specifications, consultation, investigation and evaluation in connection with the preparation of plans and specifications in the fields or subfield of heating, ventilation and air conditioning; plumbing systems; private sewage systems; electrical systems; and fire protection systems. Designers may not perform design services in those fields or subfields for which they do not hold a permit, unless the designer or building involved is exempt under ss. 443.14 and 443.15, Wis. Stats. Completion of technological academic training or apprenticeship program may be considered equivalent to experience but may not exceed a total of 4 years. Graduation from a course other than engineering technology shall be equivalent to 2 years of experience.

UDC Electrical Inspector - One & Two Family Homes

Reason for Credential: Pursuant s. 101.66 (2), Stats., no person may conduct the inspection of one- and two-family dwellings for the purpose of administering and enforcing chs. Comm 16 and Comm 24 unless the person holds a credential issued by the department as a certified UDC-electrical inspector. Requirements of Credential: A person who inspects one- and two-family dwellings as a certified UDC-electrical inspector shall: Maintain a record of the inspections made, including the date and the findings of the inspections; Provide a copy of the inspection report to the property owner or his or her agent, and Make available to the department upon request his or her inspection records. Electrical Contractor

Reason for Credential: Pursuant to s. 101.862, Stats., no person or entity, as of April 1, 2013, may engage in the business or offer to engage in the business of installing, repairing, or maintaining electrical wiring unless the person or entity holds a license or certification issued by the department as a licensed electrical contractor, except as provided under s. 101.862 (4), Stats. Qualifications for Credential: The person applying for an electrical contractor license shall be the owner of the contracting business, a partner in the contracting business applying on behalf of the partnership, or the chairman of the board or chief executive officer applying on behalf of the contracting corporation.
