My experience with the RMA program has been amazing.  My externship in a local cardiology office gave me the real world training and experience to start my new career.

Registered Medical Assistant (A.S.)

The Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) program will lead to an Associate of Science degree and prepare students to sit for a voluntary national certification exam sponsored by the American Medical Technologists. This association is a nationally and internationally recognized certification agency for allied health professionals. Upon passing the national exam, students will be able to work in any state and perform all duties required of a medical assistant under the direct supervision of a physician.

Program Outcomes:

Medical Assistants will earn certification by passing the national certification exam offered through the American Medical Technologists.

  • Students will have knowledge of front office procedures in a medical facility;
  • Perform clinical procedures relating to direct patient care and education;
  • Demonstrate competency in laboratory testing, specimen collection and diagnostic procedures;
  • Demonstrate and practice behaviors consistent with the legal and ethical standards of the medical profession;
  • Display proficient knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology including disease processes;
  • Understand basic pharmacology, drug classifications, dosage calculations, and drug interactions.

Employment Information:

Medical Assistants will be employed in physicians’ offices, clinics, and other medical facilities practicing ambulatory care. Upon passing the national certification exam, students will be able to work in any state and perform all duties required of a medical assistant under the direct supervision of a physician.

As of the Fall 2023 semester, the Community Colleges will merge and become Connecticut State Community College (CT State), a statewide college comprised of all Connecticut’s current community college locations.
