What You’ll Learn

The Basic Jail Academy at Blackhawk Technical College prepares you for an entry-level position as a correctional officer within the county jails. The five-week (200-hour) academy meets Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Department of Justice requires recruits to attend 100% of the training unless excused by the academy director. Excused absences are extremely limited and will only be granted under certain circumstances.
