What is Criminal Justice?
Our Criminal Justice program prepares you for entry-level work in:
- law enforcement
- corrections
- court systems
- loss safety and prevention
- other related occupations
The field of Criminal Justice has changed. Before, jobs had minimal requirements. Now, they've evolved into positions that need complex knowledge and skills. Our classes give you the foundation of theory, principles, and techniques you'll need! Graduates who earn their Associates degree can gain many job opportunities. These opportunities include all levels of government and the private sector.
To stay in the Criminal Justice program, you must achieve a grade of C or better in each CRJ course. You also must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale). The Criminal Justice KCTCS Curriculum Committee approves your graduation through a post-exit exam.
What are my career choices?
Careers in criminal justice include:
- local or state police,
- vehicle enforcement,
- institutional corrections,
- correctional supervision, and
- court administration.
Starting salaries in criminal justice or law enforcement can range between $25,000 and $30,000. There are also benefits not included in your salary. Benefits include a vehicle, health & life insurance, equipment, and an excellent retirement package. Of course, all this depends on location and employer.
What are my degree, diploma, or certificate options?
The catalog describes the course requirements for completing the credential. Students are required to schedule an appointment with their assigned academic advisor to ensure achievement of their academic goals.
Length of Program
You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status.
