PRE-ADMISSION CONFERENCE

The pre-admission conference is designed to provide information and answer questions about the admissions process and requirements for the radiography program offered by Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC).  Students who want to be considered for the Associate of Applied Science Degree, Radiography Class must attend a pre-admission conference.  March 1 is the deadline for students to complete the application process and to submit all required documents to the BCTC Selective Admissions Office for the radiography program applications file. 

Virtual Pre-Admission Conference Information

• Preadmission conference for Radiography will be held virtually for Fall 2024. Email lesley.klosterman@kctcs.edu for details about the preadmission conference.

In addition to attending the pre-admission conference, the following documents must be submitted to the BCTC Admissions Office by March 1 to complete the applicant file.

1. Application for admission to Bluegrass Community and Technical College. This must be updated on an annual basis.
2. Official high school transcript (with graduation date) indicating that the applicant has or will complete a high school course of study or a passing GED® official score report.
3. Official Transcripts* of all post-secondary education or training.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Students will be responsible for collecting all documents for the admission process and submitting to the Office of Admissions or the Selective Admissions Department(s) as a completed application. Incomplete files will not be accepted.

Admission to the Radiography Program is open to all qualified students regardless of economic or social status, and without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, marital status, beliefs, age, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability.

Each applicant must submit the following credentials to the Office of Admission:

1. Completed application for admission to the college
2. Transcripts of all post-secondary education or training

Each applicant must complete the following for the Office of Selective Admission:

1. Create a Selective Admission System Account
2. Submit Transcripts of all post-secondary education or training
3. Submit documentation of pre-admission conference
4. Completed application submitted by March 1st

Important Notice

You will also need to submit a current copy your active State Nurse Aide registry from the website

• NAA 100 is offered at BCTC and will enable students to meet the active status on a state nurse aide registry.

*Please try to have all documents submitted by February 15th to enable the selective admission office to prepare student files.

PREFERENCE CATEGORIES

Admission to the Radiography Program is open to all qualified students regardless of economic or social status, and without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, marital status, age, national origin or disability.

Preference may be given to applicants who have:

• Applicants who have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better (4 point scale) in 10 hours or more of college credit applicable to the radiography program,
• Applicants who have completed the biological and physical sciences and mathematics courses listed in the radiography curriculum with a grade of C or better,
• Applicants who are registered and/or licensed in an allied health or nursing profession,
• Applicants who have active status on a state nurse aide registry.

Note: Applicants whose credentials fall below the minimum criteria may be informed of an early decision regarding their admission status.

Consistent with the vision and mission statements of Bluegrass Community and Technical College, the Radiography Program's mission is to cultivate a community of aspiring radiologic technologist who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to excel in the dynamic field of medical imaging.  We are committed to fostering an environment of excellence, innovation, and compassionate patient care, while preparing our students to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our diverse communities. The program will utilize a competency-based evaluation system to prepare graduates with the necessary skills to administer the production of high-quality medical imaging in a variety of clinical environments along with instruction in the classroom and laboratory, which will provide program participants with a well-rounded educational experience.

RADIOGRAPHY GOALS AND STUDENT OUTCOMES

1. To ensure that students demonstrate a high level of clinical competency in radiologic procedures.
   
   • Students utilize proper radiation protection practices.
   • Students will provide quality patient care.
   • Students will properly position for radiographic procedures.
2. To develop effective communication skills among students, enabling them to interact confidently and professionally with patients, healthcare professionals and colleagues.
   
   • Students can effectively interact/summarize procedures to patients.
   • Student can work alongside other healthcare professionals efficiently and effectively.
3. To foster students critical thinking abilities enabling them to analyze complex situations, make informed decisions, and adapt to evolving healthcare environments.
   
   • Students will analyze the relationship between image quality and technical factors.
   • Students will critique images for positioning precision.
   • Students will identify different pathologies and recognize what technical adjustments need to be made.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

Once admitted to the Radiography Program, students are expected to attend all class, laboratory, and clinic assignments. The following is a current breakdown of the Radiography classes:

• Clinic weekend or evening times are based on the clinical setting staffing availability. Weekend shifts must be completed consecutively, and any missed days will incur a make-up day.
• Scheduled times may be changed due to staffing/educational requirements. Program will inform student in advance of any scheduled changes.

CREDENTIALING EXAMINATION

The number of students who pass, on the first attempt, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination, or an unrestricted state licensing examination, compared with the number of graduates who take the examination within six months of graduation. The five-year average benchmark established by the JRCERT is 75%. 

JOB PLACEMENT

The number of graduates employed in the radiologic sciences compared to the number of graduates actively seeking employment in the radiologic sciences within twelve months of graduating. The five-year average benchmark established by the JRCERT is 75%. 

*Job placement rate: The number of graduates employed in the radiologic sciences compared to the number of graduates actively seeking employment in the radiologic sciences. The JRCERT has defined not actively seeking employment as:

1. graduate fails to communicate with program officials regarding employment status after multiple attempts,
2. graduate is unwilling to seek employment that requires relocation,
3. graduate is unwilling to accept employment, for example, due to salary or hours,
4. graduate is on active military duty, and/or
5. graduate is continuing education.

PROGRAM COMPLETION

The number of students who complete the program within the stated program length. The annual benchmark established by the program is 80%.

The Radiography program is located in Lexington on Leestown Campus, in the M Building. Students may choose to take all prerequisite and general education coursework online or at any BCTC campus.
