Medical Laboratory Assistant

A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Certificate can be completed in just 1 1/2 semesters or 20 weeks. Classes begin in January each year and successful students finish in June. MLAs find employment in hospital labs and the certificate can be used as a stepping stone to a degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).

The first 16 weeks of the program learning takes place on the Huntsville campus in the classroom and simulated laboratory, then students are assigned to clinical experiences at local facilities.

This certificate program is open enrollment to the first twelve persons who apply. Scholarships and other funding are available. Learn more about MLA in the FAQs and at information sessions.

The medical laboratory assistant program at Calhoun Community College meets the state education requirements for medical laboratory assistant certification in the state of Alabama. Calhoun Community College has not determined if the medical laboratory assistant program at Calhoun Community College meets the state education requirements in any other state, any U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia.
