Computer Technician

Do you find yourself drawn to the latest development of information technologies? Are you ready to take the next step in your career in information technology? With our Computer Technician Certification Program, you’ll be prepared with advanced knowledge of server operating systems, mobile communication, network standards, and working with LAN and WANs.

Students will also gain an understanding of the latest development of information technologies, including cloud computing, programming, mobile application development, Cisco routing, network security concepts and policies. The Computer Technician Certificate prepares students for careers in the areas of networking, computer service, programming and software development. Students will be able to complete this program within two semesters successfully.

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to take the CompTIA and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification exams. The skills gained through this certificate can be useful for computer technicians, network engineers or systems administrators.

This certificate is earned upon the completion of the two stackable Information & Communication Technology (ICT) certificates.

Admission Requirements

The Computer Technician Certificate is a two-semester open-enrollment program, meaning there are no criteria students must meet to be admitted. Students who are interested in enrolling in this program should complete our steps to enroll, which include completing the free application for admission.

We encourage all prospective students to visit the campus. We have several  Explore Sandburg open houses throughout the year, or you can schedule a campus visit at your convenience.

Program format

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) courses are available online or in a multiple-modality format. Multiple-modality courses provide students with the option to sit in a traditional classroom, attend online or attend a scheduled class using Microsoft Teams.

Class formats

Sandburg offers courses in a variety of formats to best fit the needs of our students. To determine the formats for specific courses, please refer to our course schedule.

Regardless of the course format, you should have access to a reliable computer with broadband (high-speed) internet. All courses use online resources and require students to access course information through mySandburg. Accessing courses through a phone is discouraged. Both campuses have open computer labs for student use.

Thanks to our generous donors, the   Carl Sandburg College Foundation  is able to award more than $100,000 each year in scholarship dollars to Sandburg students.
