Fire Science Technology

The fire science program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for fire service employment or job advancement within the profession, or for transfer to a four-year school for additional training in fire science management.

What are the features of Casper’s program?

Courses allow students to gain valuable experience and to obtain certifications. The curriculum includes eight required core classes: strategy and tactics, rescue practices, hazardous materials, wildland fire fighting, fire investigation, fire prevention, apparatus and procedures and basic emergency care. These eight courses give students a broad base of fire service knowledge.

The fire science program is becoming more diverse and relevant. Students receive more hands-on training. They have the chance to experience “a day in the life of a fireman” by working a 24-hour shift at the Casper Fire Department.

The backing of the Casper College administration and the donation of equipment from various companies allow us to offer more practical courses. For example, the City of Casper donated a 1976 Pierce Pumper to the program a few years ago.

Although this is an A.A.S. degree, graduates from this program may apply this degree toward an online applied science degree at the University of Wyoming at Casper.

Clubs and organizations

The Casper College Fire Science Association is currently involved in the following activities:

  • Monthly practicals that provide hands-on experience for fireground operations
  • Trash pick-up through the Adopt-A-Highway foundation
  • Viewing a series of videos about the fire services
  • Creating and training for a Casper College Student Firefighter Combat Team
  • Researching the possibility of a Firefighter Cadet program in Casper
  • Fundraising to advance the CCFSA and its membership

We are always looking for new opportunities that allow us to volunteer in the community, gain knowledge or skills, and form friendships or partnerships.
