Automotive Technology

In Automotive Technology at Central Maine Community College, you can choose the “In-House Track” or the “Dealer TraX.” Both tracks enable students to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for success in the automotive industry. Students from this program graduate with an associate in applied science degree.

The In-House Track allows individuals to remain fully on-campus, immersed in academic and lab experience. Dealer Trax students alternate between classroom and automotive lab training with paid, on-the-job experience.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

In-House Track

The In-House track is designed to prepare highly skilled technicians for an ever-expanding and challenging automotive industry. This track emphasizes electronic and other test equipment and the completion of work with industry standards.

Graduates are prepared to perform all NATEF (P-1) tasks to diagnose and repair:

  • Systems associated with automotive chassis components
  • Assemblies associated with automotive engine and power transmission systems
  • Components associated with any electrical and electronic control systems, as well as accessory ergonomic systems
DEALER TraX

Dealer TraX students alternate between classroom and automotive lab training with paid, on-the-job experience. This track is designed to prepare highly skilled technicians for an ever-expanding and challenging automotive industry.

Graduates are prepared to perform all NATEF (P-1) tasks to diagnose and repair:

  • Systems associated with automotive chassis components
  • Assemblies associated with automotive engine and power transmission systems
  • Components associated with any electrical and electronic control systems, as well as accessory ergonomic systems

Develop skills and knowledge pertaining to:

  • Computer controlled engine systems
  • Computer-managed diagnostics
  • Microelectronics
  • Complex pneumatic systems
  • Composite materials and hydraulics

GRADUATES MAY PURSUE CAREERS AS:

  • General Technicians
  • Front-End Alignment Specialists
  • Brake Specialists
  • Automatic Transmission Specialists
