Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician program is a 1-semester program designed to train individuals to respond safely in emergency medical situations. Program content consists of theory and skills on life-support measures, the use of medical emergency equipment and supplies, and an ambulance module. Job opportunities are in hospital emergency rooms, ambulance companies, and other health care agencies. The EMT course is offered each Fall and Spring semesters based on open enrollment.

A refresher course is also offered each one to two years to assist EMT's in maintaining current certification. For additional information about these courses contact CR's Adult and Community Education Programs.

Paramedic

The North Coast Paramedic Program builds on the knowledge and skills gained as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The program provides comprehensive study of pre-hospital emergency care that meets State of California requirements for a Paramedic license and prepares students to sit for the National Registry paramedic exam.

The 33-unit program, only available to people who already are EMT-1 certified, and have submitted an application to the Health Occupations Office, will run fall/spring semesters with a summer/fall internship. For the convenience of those who are working full-time, the class for fall and spring semesters will be held on Fridays from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30p.m.

The Paramedic Program is intended as a structured course of study that cannot be divided into separate component parts.  Therefore, no advanced placement, credit for experiential learning, or transfer credit is available.
