SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY
Are you interested in becoming a valued, integral member of the surgical team? If your answer is “yes,” pursuing a degree as a surgical technologist is the career field for you. As a surgical technologist, you work with the operating room team before, during and after surgery to deliver quality patient care. Surgical technologists prepare the instruments and set up the trays that will be utilized by the surgical team. During the procedure, technologists pass instruments to the surgeon and generally assist where needed.
This 18-month associate degree delivers the knowledge and skills necessary for you to enter the field of surgical technology as well as to take the National Certification Examination for Surgical Technology. The program is aligning its standards and curriculum to meet those set forth by Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) standards.

TOTAL CREDIT HOURS COMPLETED FOR THE DEGREE: 67 CREDIT HOURS
1 | Taking this course during the sequence is a suggestion and not a requirement. The course must be taken for the A.A.S. degree, but not necessarily during this semester. If you are interested in applying to nursing school, you should take Math 1260 (3 credits) instead of Math 1120. |
NOTE:
Given that 40 percent of surgical technologists identify that nursing is their ultimate goal, the remaining credit hours are added to mirror CCD’s pre-nursing plan of study. These courses are not prerequisites and can be taken at any time.
Completion of all of the surgical technology coursework and the classes below will not result in an Associate of Science degree, but rather an Associate of Applied Science degree:
- HWE 1050 - 3 credits
- MAT 1260 - 3 credits
- CHE 1011 - 5 credits
- MAT 1340 - 4 credits
