Welding Technology

The Welding Technology program prepares students to enter the workforce as an entry-level, credentialed, and skilled welder/fabricator. 

Welding Technology students will learn how to maintain tools and equipment, as well as learn how to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols, understand power sources and current types, and gain the knowledge and skills to make satisfactory welds in all positions that meet industry standards in Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arce Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). 

DCC is the first school in Montana with an aluminum-only class that aligns with Spika Welding's preferred curriculum goals and has the latest welding equipment, machinery, and tools used in the industry. Students log more than 2000 hours of hands-on training in the shop.

  • Associate of Applied Science

    Upon completion of the two-year Associate of Applied Science, students will 

    • Demonstrate safe work habits in welding/metal fabrication
    • Identify and use a variety of techniques and materials to achieve the desired weld
    • Perform quality welds on mild steel using arc and gas methods
    • Layout and cut flat and structural steel
    • Show ability in structural welding, MIG/TIG applications, and advanced welding techniques
    • Demonstrate welding symbol interpretation
    • Attain AS LEVEL I Welding Certification
  • Certificate of Applied Science

    Upon completion of the one-year Certificate of Applied Science, students will be able to:

    • Demonstrate safe work habits in welding/metal fabrication
    • Identify and use a variety of techniques and materials to achieve the desired weld
    • Perform quality welds on mild steel using arc and gas methods
    • Layout and cut flat and structural steel
  • Certificate of Technical Studies

    Students have the option of earning a Certificate of Technical Studies after each semester by completing program-specific courses. This allows students to earn a credential after just one semester and develops a more skilled workforce.
