What is web design?

Web design is a discipline that combines elements of website development, graphic design, copywriting and search engine optimization (SEO), and focuses on creating the design of a website. It involves building websites that are visually appealing, informative, highly functional and easy for the user to understand and navigate, while also performing well with regard to SEO.

What courses are required for web design?

Our Undergraduate Certificate Program in Website Design at DeVry requires you to complete 10 web design courses: one in graphic and multimedia design and nine in web graphic design. Some examples of the courses you will take include Web Video Fundamentals with Lab, Information Design and Web Animation.

These hands-on web design courses are designed to help you understand various web technologies and web development practices while you build versatile and industry-relevant skills. You will have opportunities to evaluate and structure website code, explore cascading style sheets (CSS), apply fundamental visual design concepts and learn to enhance websites through the use of video and audio components.
