An emergency medical technician (EMT) provides emergency care for accident victims, people who suffer sudden illness
or those whose health condition has deteriorated to a life-threatening state.

Advanced EMTCertificate of Completion
The Certificate of Completion in Advanced EMT articulates classroom, clinical, and field experience to prepare students for a career in out-of-hospital emergency medical care. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Personnel, through the performance of patient assessments and initial treatment of medical emergencies of the acutely ill or injured, work to prevent and reduce mortality and morbidity. Students entering the Paramedic program must possess a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification/registration. Successful completion of this program allows graduates to take the National Registry Examination for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Graduates may then transfer to a university to complete a Bachelor of Science in EMS or Allied Health.
• Students are encouraged to have a strong reading level to succeed in the coursework, see an academic counselor or advisor for guidance.
• Capstone experience: EMSP 2305, EMS Operations.
• Minimum grade required for specialized courses: C

This one semester classroom and clinical education program provides education and training for those paramedics who respond to specific health needs in the community. The Community Paramedic program will prepare students for roles in outreach, wellness, health screening assessments, health teaching, providing immunizations, wound care, recognition of mental health issues, disease management, etc. Community paramedics function as physician extenders in providing care to patients, immigrants, impoverished families and patients with overall poor health.
Community paramedics assist with minor and chronic health problems in the patient’s home rather than routinely driving patients to a hospital emergency room, therefore reducing readmissions and preventing unnecessary ambulance transports. Successful completion of this program allows graduates to be eligible for the Exam by the International Board for Specialty Certification (IBSC), CP-C Examination (Certified Community Paramedics).
• Students may enroll in selected courses prior to completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic.
• Courses may be completed as co-requisites within the same semester or HPRS 2301 and HPRS 1202 may be completed as prerequisites to EMSP 1471 and EMSP 1163.

This one semester classroom and clinical education program provides education and training for those paramedics who function as members of a critical care transport team. Successful completion of this program allows graduates to be eligible for the Exam by the International Board for Specialty Certification (IBSC), Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C) and Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C).
• Students may enroll in selected courses prior to completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic.
• Courses may be completed as co-requisites within the same semester or HPRS 2301 may be completed as a prerequisite to EMSP 2458 and EMSP 2163.
• Minimum grade required for specialized courses: C

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic articulates classroom, clinical, and field experience to prepare students for a career in out-of-hospital emergency medical care. The Emergency Medical Program Services provides training at several levels:
- EMS-Basic
- Advanced EMT
- Paramedic
- Community Paramedic
- Critical Care/Flight Paramedic.
The Emergency Medical Program Services provides training at three progressive levels: EMS-Basic, EMS-Intermediate,
and EMS-Paramedic. Two enhanced skills certificates are available which include Critical Care/Flight Paramedic and
Community Paramedic (available to paramedics). EMSP is fully accredited by CoAEMSP and CAAHEP.
Individuals with National Registry (NREMT) and/or previously related work experience may register for specialized,
specific courses either individually or in an accelerated fashion. In addition, EPCC offers EMS professionals
options for Award of Non-Traditional Credit based on your work experience. See the Health Occupations Counselor or
EMSP Program Coordinator for more information.
The EPCC Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic program endorses CoAEMSP Standard II.A
“To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior)
