Competitive Admissions

  • A student must complete all pre-requisites and gain competitive points in order to apply for approval to the Practical Nursing program.
  • Once approved for a Health program, students will be provided with information regarding books, uniforms, supplies and equipment, and any additional program requirements.

What to Expect:

Course Work

The Practical Nursing curriculum provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the needs of the holistic individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes safe, individualized nursing care and participation in the interdisciplinary team while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.

Career Paths

Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

Diploma

Practical Nursing Diploma (D45660)

Program Length: 3 Semesters
Prerequisite: High School Transcripts, English/Math TIER 2 Placement Test Credit/Equivalent, 1 Unit of Biology, 1 Unit of Chemistry, and TEAS test score of proficient or higher
Award: Diploma

The Practical Nursing Program is designed to meet the educational requirements for the graduates of this program to apply to the North Carolina Board of Nursing to be eligible to sit for the state’s NCLEX-PN licensure exam.
