Nursing Assistant

WELCOME

We are so glad you're here! The Nursing Assistant program is offered several times a year and can be completed in as little as 8 weeks. The program is offered as both a credit and a noncredit program.  The credit program is limited to students co-enrolled in Adult Education programs preparing for the HiSET exam (please see below for more information regarding the Adult Education/WorkReady U program).  Seating is limited based on available clinical space.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Nursing Assistant Program prepares students to perform basic care services to patients including checking vital signs, grooming, and nutrition. The program includes an introduction to health care, basic nursing skills, body structure and function, and infection control.  Students participate in clinical activities at long term care facilities under the supervision of the instructor. This program also prepares students to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam.

ADMISSIONS

Acceptance to Fletcher Technical Community College does not guarantee acceptance into the Nursing Assistant program. Seats are offered based on application date. To apply to the Nursing Assistant program, please review the Admission Requirements and complete the Admissions Application found below in LINKS.

Things to consider before applying to the Nursing Assistant program:

• Students must submit a background check from the Louisiana State Police. View a detailed list of convictions that bar employment of unlicensed persons in Louisiana.
• Students offered admission into the program must pass random drug screen(s).
• Required immunizations are 2 MMR shots (measles, mumps, and rubella), a current tetanus – diphtheria (TD) shot within the last 10 years.
• Hep B series must be started.
• Flu vaccination or waiver
• COVID vaccination or Medical or Religious exemption
• Physical Exam
• Current TB test

*All noncredit course tuition and fees are assessed by each class. Tuition, fees, and other charges relating to noncredit classes are not refundable unless the training course is canceled by the College. If the College cancels a class, then 100% of all College-assessed tuition and fees paid will be refunded for the canceled class.

Noncredit program

1. Complete an admissions application to Fletcher Technical Community College (current/continuing Fletcher students do not need to submit another application) online here: APPLY NOW. Select Healthcare as your program.
2. Be fully or unconditionally accepted to Fletcher Technical Community College by completing all Admissions requirements. Admissions will notify you of your status via email.
3. Complete and submit the “Noncredit Application for Admission” 
4. Complete a Louisiana State Police background check. Click HERE for instructions on how to obtain the required background check. This background check must be received for your application to be considered.

Credit program (Adult Ed/WorkReady U)

1. Complete an admissions application to Fletcher Technical Community College (current/continuing Fletcher students do not need to submit another application) online here: APPLY NOW.
2. Be fully or unconditionally accepted to Fletcher Technical Community College by completing all Admissions requirements. Admissions will notify you of your status via email.  
3. Complete and submit the “Credit Application for Admission” located below in LINKS.
4. Complete a Louisiana State Police background check. Background Check Instructions  This background check must be received for your application to be considered.

If you do not have a high school diploma or equivalency, but would like to obtain the HiSET while in the Nursing Assistant program, please contact our WorkReady U/Adult Education department by contacting one of the individuals below or by visiting our website here: www.fletcher.edu/programs/adult-education.

**This program has a clinical component to complete the program. Please be advised that Fletcher’s Nursing and Allied Health faculty members work closely with many clinical sites to provide an optimal clinical experience for all of its students. Fletcher must follow policies and guidelines set forth by programmatic accreditation boards as well as hospital policies. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we must abide by the federal, state, local, college and health care facility mandates. At this time, your program completion date is dependent upon our ability to enter and complete training in clinical facility. Fletcher’s faculty and administration will work with all of our partners to complete clinical hours in a safe and timely manner when possible. We thank you for choosing Fletcher for your career goals and look forward to working with you to achieve success.
