Emergency Medical Technician (Certificate)

Emergency Medical Service Technology Program Information

The Emergency Medical Technology Program is designed to prepare students to become competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).

The EMT program is one semester and, 12-college credits. The estimated cost of the program is $3,200 for Florida residents and $7,100 for non-Florida residents.

The program consists of 90 lecture hours, 120 laboratory hours, 18 hospital clinical hours, and 72 hours of internship/ride time experience. Students are responsible for their transportation to and from the clinical sites.

Upon successfully completing the program, students will receive a college completion certificate and the necessary paperwork required to apply for both Florida EMT and National Registry certifications.

Accreditation

The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP)

Process and Steps to Complete the EMT Application

The EMT program requires a limited admission application, so it is highly recommended to submit your online application as early as possible.

Steps 1-4 must be done prior to applying online.

1.If you are not a current Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) student, you need to apply for admission to FSW. 2. Take the FSW placement test or be evaluated as exempt from taking this placement test. 3. Review the Application Guide for detailed instructions. 4. Create and upload all required documents to your Castle Branch account prior to applying. See download and links for instructions. Program Health Report and Instructions for Castle Branch (PDF) Once you have uploaded all requested documents to your Castle Branch account, you are now ready to apply to the EMT Program. Click Apply Now and fill in required information. (Remember to pay $15 application fee)

When your online application is completed and all your documents have been uploaded and APPROVED by Castle Branch, you will be provisionally accepted into the EMT program. You will then be emailed additional information to include:

  • Student Information Sheet – Contains: Mandatory EMT orientation date / scheduling your uniform fitting / required textbooks and lab supplies.
  • Instructions for fingerprinting / background and drug screening (Initiated on Castle Branch)

IMPORTANT:

The acceptance of your EMT application is on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that you complete the following: 1. Upload the correct documents to Castle Branch. 2. Complete and clear background, fingerprinting, and drug screening. Your application and campus selection will not be processed until all requirements are complete.

Fingerprinting, background, and drug screening results must be received and cleared by the EMS office.
