Program Insight
Graduates of the Health Information Records Management program have gone on to rewarding careers within the healthcare system in the region. This program also prepares students to take the Coding Certification Exam (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist or CBCS) exam from the National Health Career Association.

Course work emphasis is on document preparation, transcription and editing, medical billing and insurance verification, introductory medical coding, report development, office management, and administrative practices. Here are some of the courses you will take.
This course is designed to provide the students with an overview of the basics of patient care in Allied Health and related careers such as vital signs, body mechanics, and patient interactions. Emphasis is placed on core traits of a health care provider, the interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of patient care, professional accountability in the health care setting, communication and etiquette, consumer education, and cultural competence and diversity.
This course presents standardized basic concepts and brings all reimbursement systems down to a common denominator that simplifies and clarifies medical insurance. The procedures necessary to successfully file medical claims for reimbursement are covered. This course benefits those who are currently practicing medical assistants and students enrolled in medical-related programs.
Emphasis is on understanding medical terms. The logic behind the formation of medical terms, analysis of words, and interpretive and deductive skills are used. Terms associated with all anatomical systems are covered.
This course provides experience using an integrated software suite. Microsoft® Office applications are used to complete advanced word processing functions to prepare documents that integrate files from applications and the Internet. Topics include MS Office and Google Applications. This course uses these concepts and applications to solve realistic business problems. The project-based, real-world applications give students hands-on knowledge of these applications in the workplace.

Meet the Faculty
Kullen Bailey
Assistant Professor, Clinical Coordinator of Radiologic Technology
Kullen Bailey is a SUNY FMCC alumnus and graduated from the Radiologic Technology program at FMCC in 2014. He has been a part of the medical imaging community for about 10 years. 2023 is his eighth-year teaching as an Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator in the Radiologic Technology program here at FMCC. The courses his teaches on campus are Radiographic Physics I, Radiographic Physics II, Radiographic Positioning Labs, Radiographic Image Quality and Advanced Radiographic Procedures II.
Kullen also oversee all the Clinical Experience courses in the program. Aside from teaching on campus, he works as a Radiologic Technologist in the CT Scan and X-Ray department at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam to keep my skills as a technologist current. He admires every aspect of medical imaging from patient care and image evaluation to working collaboratively in groups with other members of the health care team to provide an excellent patient experience. He enjoys teaching Radiologic Technology because he likes witnessing students think critically and solve problems both in the classroom and clinical environment. It is exciting to see the students as they progress from student radiographers to licensed Radiologic Technologists.
Kullen's educational background includes a Master of Science degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology through SUNY Albany, a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services with a Concentration in Healthcare Administration through SUNY Empire State College and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology from SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
Eileen Casey
Director of Nursing, Assistant Professor
Eileen brings a lot of experience to her role as both the Director and Assistant Professor. Alongside her time at FMCC, she has worked in a Level 1 Trauma Center for 30 years, primarily in Critical Care: Surgical, Neurological, and Cardiac. Eileen is passionate about nursing and inspiring others interested in the profession.
In her free time Eileen likes to do anything that involves animals and the outdoors. She loves to travel, and her trips have include hiking the Cascades, Adirondacks, White Mountains, Katahdin, biking in Acadia, and horseback riding in Ireland.
Cynthia Forrest

o Employed as an RN in many aspects of healthcare to include Med-Surg, Obstetrics, as a Practical Nurse Instructor and in Neonatal ICU; was nationally certified in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing. As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, she also worked in Pediatric Surgery, Primary Care, Women’s Health, as an Associate Degree nursing instructor, a Forensic Exam Administrator and Child Sexual Abuse Examiner at a Child Advocacy Center. She worked in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care for 17 years.

o B.S., M.S., D.N.P. with honors from Sigma Theta Tau International.
o She is a board member for the Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center (AHEC).

Karlyn LaBate
Associate Professor, Director of Radiologic Technology
Professor Karlyn LaBate brings a wealth of expertise to our community college as a respected member of the Diagnostic Imaging community. Professor LaBate has a passion for the intersection of art and science. She brings knowledge from three post primary imaging modalities to the classroom.
With a focus on applied imaging techniques, she is dedicated to preparing students for careers in diagnostic imaging. Her hands-on approach, coupled with industry insights, provides students with practical skills and a deep understanding of imaging technologies.
Beyond the classroom, Professor LaBate actively collaborates with local industry partners, ensuring that her curriculum remains current and relevant to the demands of the field. Her commitment to student success is reflected in her mentorship approach, guiding students through clinical experiences, and career pathways. Her favorite part of teaching is the connection with students and alumni.
Jessie Mascho
Instructor
Jessie is an experienced nursing instructor known for her commitment to nursing education and her background in healthcare. Jessie's teaching portfolio includes courses such as Nursing Science III, IV and Pharmacology. She is the advisor of the Student Nursing Association. Her professional journey has been defined by her roles in Adult Medical/Surgical, and Labor/Delivery. Her hands-on experience in these areas has not only honed her clinical skills but has also provided valuable real-world insights that she enthusiastically imparts to her students. She implements simulation technology to create immersive and interactive learning environments that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Her teaching philosophy centers on the belief that hands-on experiences are paramount to developing the clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and confidence essential for nursing practice. Beyond her teaching duties, Jessie remains dedicated to advancing nursing practices and improving patient care with her involvement in professional organizations. In her free time, Jessie enjoys camping, hiking, watching college softball, attending sporting events, and spending time with her dog Skye.
Lisa Rendina
Instructor
Lisa Rendina started at FMCC in January 2024 as our newest Nursing Faculty addition. Lisa has been with Belanger School of Nursing as an Academic Advisor and Nursing Instructor for the last 2 years. Prior to Belanger, Lisa spent 14 years at Stony Brook Children's Hospital in multiple roles as a Teaching and Research Nurse, Nurse Educator and a Nurse Specialist/Administrator. Lisa has also been an adjunct faculty member as a Nursing Clinical Instructor with Stony Brook University for 8 years. For rest and relaxation, Lisa enjoys the beach, camping by the lake, line dancing and yoga. She is a busy mom of 2 that are active in the Boy and Girl Scouts, as well as sports every season. Both Lisa and her husband are active in the EMS world and give back to their communities serving as an American Heart Association BLS Instructor and volunteer fire fighter respectively.

Charlene Dybas
Assistant Professor
A graduate of Fulton Montgomery Community College with an AA degree; Skidmore College, BS; and received her MS from Russel Sage College. Charlene has taught various courses while at FMCC including Quantitative Business Applications, Business Communications, Principles of Business, Word Processing Applications, Office Software Applications for Business Professionals, Computer Applications, Human Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Introduction to Sport Management, Career Search, and Career Success.
Charlene is the recipient of the 2021 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Prior to coming to FMCC Charlene worked as a Vice President for a local bank and then a teacher in the Johnstown City School District. She taught courses such as Business Law, Career and Financial Management, Keyboarding, and Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
In addition to teaching, she is the Advisor for the Individual Learning, Collaborative Learning (COCAL) Program through the Business and Community Partnerships Office. As Advisor for the Individual Learning Program, Charlene will meet with students who are looking for a program that is focused on career training that combines off-campus “hands-on” experience with on campus related instruction. Charlene and the students will work together to create the perfect strategy and learning plan to ensure that they will acquire the skills they need to fulfill the job requirements in their chosen field.
Finally, Charlene is the Lead Trainer and coach for the Money Smart Program Grant which provides FMCC students with FREE financial coaching tailored to their specific needs in budgeting, establishing a relationship with banks, starting good savings habits, establishing credit and how to manage it.
Flor Trespalacios
Assistant Professor
Dr. Flor Trespalacios received her Ph.D. in Health Sciences and specialized as an International Health Practitioner and Educator. Dr. Trespalacios has a Master of Health Sciences from TUI University, Post-Baccalaureate in Biology from the Harvard Univesrity's Extension School, Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Community Health from Brown University, and certifications in Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), CPR-Adult/Pediatric, and is an Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Technician. Dr. Trespalacios trained as an Emergency Medical Technician – Cardiac specialist and became a part of the Rhode Island Disaster Medical Assistance Team (RI-1 DMAT), a full-scale non-military medical unit trained to handle mass gatherings and disasters. Dr. Trespalacios has been published in several journals including Academic Emergency Medicine, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Journal of Rheumatology, Chest, and recently the doctoral dissertation of ‘Association Between Low Serum Amylase and Type 2 Diabetes in Adult US Hospital Patients.’
