Desktop Support

Tech support and IT support are on the front lines of business’ and organizations’ technology – and responsible for ensuring their hardware, software, and networks are operating at optimal performance. If you are a creative problem-solver who enjoys computers and working with people, consider enrolling in the Desktop Support program to learn the skills that can help you be competitive in the job market and successful in tech support or IT support.

This hands-on program offers basic IT training in solving today’s high-tech problems in desktop computers, printers, mobile devices, networks, popular applications, and operating systems – employing the very latest innovations while preparing you to adapt to changes that are still on the drawing board. You will learn about computer and network technologies, with special emphasis on data networks, network components, and network use. Upon completing this program, you will be prepared to take the CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Linux+ certification exams, paving the path for a career in tech support or IT support.

Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.

GateWay provides two educational paths to complete a credential in the desktop support field, both of which provide you with the knowledge and skills to be successful to enter the job market.

You will learn basic theory and computer support techniques and the parts of the computer, assembly and trouble shooting, along with operating systems, networking, security, servers and email.

In the Computer Support Specialist programs, you will build a fully functioning computer that is yours at the completion of the certificate program. If you successfully complete the certificate hours and pass the CompTIA A+ exam, you may be eligible to receive credits toward your degree at participating Maricopa Community Colleges. You must have a current CompTIA certification (no more than three years old) for A+ or Network+ to be awarded credit.

Arizona StRUT supplies the school with the majority of the computers and parts for hands on experience. Once the computers are repaired they are given back to StRUT who gives them to schools and non-profits in the community. The school also gets donations from the public. The public is welcome to bring in their computers to be fixed. If interested in donating, call (602) 292-5261.

Our computer system configuration offerings are for-credit programs that start on the traditional start dates in the fall and spring semesters.

Accreditation

GateWay is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Why should you choose an accredited school?

Although many schools offer seemingly similar degree and certification options, not all schools are accredited. In many instances, accreditation of the degree or program you complete may be required in order to become certified to work in the field.
