Medical Assisting
If you love helping people, it’s time to consider a career as a clinical or medical assistant in the growing healthcare field. The Medical Assisting program will train you to assist physicians and serve as a liaison between healthcare providers and patients. As a medical assistant, you are essential to the practice and an integral member of the administrative and clinical healthcare team.
The program will teach you medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, and you’ll learn administrative skills and procedures. It will also train you on how to perform your duties professionally, with sensitivity and respect. Program graduates will be eligible to take a national certification exam.

Instructor Meet and Greet
Join us in-person every Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at SouthWest Skill Center for a chance to meet with the instructors and learn more about the program!
• Check-in at the Southwest Skill Center Front Desk when you arrive.
• Please arrive early. Arrival more than 5 minutes late will result in not being permitted to attend.
• Sessions are not held when GateWay is closed for a holiday.

The Medical Assisting program at GateWay is an in-person a clock hour program, to prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
Our highly experienced instructors teach the organizational skills necessary to succeed in fast-paced health environments and medical facilities.
Enrollment: First Come First Serve Basis - Enroll Early!
Demand for admission into this program is high. Start the enrollment process at least two or more months prior to your desired start date.
The clock hour programs have specific year-round start dates, and you attend classes four days a week, Monday-Thursday. You attend practicum five days a week, Monday-Friday.
Virtual Information Sessions
Medical Assistant
If you are interested in this Healthcare program, you will be required to attend a virtual Information/Advising Session that will provide in-depth information and enrollment guidance.

Practicum Site Placement
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the practicum site. Students must be able to attend any of the clinical facilities used by the SWSC Programs. Students that are eligible for practicum placement are assigned to various healthcare agencies and will be supervised by a site-preceptor.
The Medical Assisting Department will make the final decision for student placement at each clinical facility. Students will be placed within the valley based on availability and once placed, practicum location cannot be switched.

Certificate of Competency (CCT) in Medical Assisting: $5,096 | 830 hours/8-9 months
*Months based on the program meeting 24 hours a week/4 weeks a month. Actual completion times may vary. Costs include tuition and lab fees. Amount based on current estimates and will vary. A separate $15 Registration Fee will be charged per academic year.

Students completing the program are eligible to sit for national credentialing exams, including the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the Registered Medical Assisting (RMA) exam offered by American Medical Technologists (AMT).
