Practical Nursing Certificate

 

This certificate program prepares students for careers as Licensed Practical Nurses. Graduates will participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of caring interventions in a variety of health care settings under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. Responsibilities may include case finding, reinforcing patient and family teaching programs through health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care.

 

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED.

Complete a program application.

Admission examination.

Complete both College Composition I and Math for the Health Sciences.

Criminal background Clearance.

Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program must pass the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing to practice as a licensed practical nurse in the State of New Jersey.

Description

Students must complete a program application, and admission examination, as well as successfully complete both English Composition I and Math for the Health Sciences. Health screening and criminal background check are also required. Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program must pass the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing in order to practice as a licensed practical nurse.

Career Opportunities (Career Coach)

LPN’s can work in a variety of healthcare settings including Long Term Care, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, Ambulatory Care Centers, Surgical Centers and Doctor Offices.

 

 

Transfer Opportunities

Graduates are eligible to apply for the RN Nursing program at HCCC. Application is contingent upon RN admission criteria.  Upon review, graduates will enter NURSING II in the spring semester.

Interested in starting you nursing career? Here is what you need to know: We are excited to welcome students and future nurses. The Nursing Program admits students once a year, every fall. Qualified applicants are accepted on a “rolling Admissions”/first come basis. Once a class is filled, any additional qualified applicants may be placed on a waiting list or accepted for the next admission year. Upon completion of the program graduates will receive an Associate in Science Degree–Nursing from Hudson County Community College. Admission to the Nursing Program is processed through the Nursing Program Admission and Recruitment Committee.
