Healthcare Informatics Specialist

This program prepares students for employment in various healthcare settings as entry-level data analysts who are capable of acquiring, managing, analyzing and presenting data so that better clinical and business decisions can be made. This certificate is also a great supplement to HIM professionals and other health care personnel who want to increase their data management and analytic skills. The course content includes medical terminology, health care delivery systems, electronic health record systems, data management and analysis, ethical and legal concepts, health data content, statistics, and employability skills.

Once You Complete the Program

Graduates earning the Healthcare Informatics Specialist certificate may be eligible to take the AHIMA Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) exam and seek employment with a hospital, outpatient surgery center, clinic, physician’s office or government agency. Some can even work from home.

Applying to the Healthcare Informatics Specialist Program

The application for the Fall 2024 program will be available after January 3, 2024. The deadline to apply is August 1, 2024 or until full.

To begin the application process:

  1. Read the Healthcare Informatics Specialist Application Booklet.
  2. Complete and submit the IRSC Application for the Healthcare Informatics Specialist program (Pay the $30 non-refundable application fee.)

Due to House Bill 1507, admission criteria can be affected. This bill has a possibility to change admission requirements for 2022 and beyond based on the Florida Department of Education rule development. Licensure Requirements

Indian River State College offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure in the state of Florida.  Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours. Student eligibility to apply to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam includes possession of a valid form of identification. Please visit the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) website to ensure your eligibility.

If you are a student who may choose to reside outside of Florida or one of the compact states after graduation, IRSC cannot confirm whether this degree program meets educational requirements for professional licensure/certification in your state. Some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum.  If you wish to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam in another state, contact the department of management systems in the state to determine whether this degree will meet their licensure requirements.

Completion of the Healthcare Informatics requirements makes you eligible to apply to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam in Florida.

This is a national organization which supplements and complements the health occupations education curriculum.
