WHAT IS HUMAN SERVICES?

Are you interested in helping individuals, groups, and your community? The Human Services program at Jefferson may be a great fit for you! Our program provides you with the knowledge and skills to qualify for entry-level positions in agencies that provide social, educational, advocacy, substance abuse, and mental health services.

Application of Human Service principles and skills is provided through an internship (HMS 251) at an appropriate agency or institution, which will agree to supervise interns for 120 hours of service and evaluate them at the conclusion.

Upon completion of the Human Services Program, graduates are prepared to seek employment in various areas which may include mental health settings, chemical dependency settings, hospitals, educational institutions, and others. The HMS Program also prepares students for transfer to other institutions offering Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work, Human Services and Counseling, or related fields.

What are my career options?

Our Jefferson graduates are employed in a wide range of social service and healthcare industries, working with the community on issues surrounding advocacy, recovery and rehabilitation, mental health, etc.
