This curriculum is designed to serve students planning to enter the field of computer information technology and those already employed who need specialized skills required by the computing industry.

This program is not designed to transfer to a four-year institution.

Full-time students planning to complete the Associate in Applied Science degree should concurrently work towards completion of requirements from a chosen option and General Courses requirements. For example, each term, a full-time student should take two to three courses that meet requirements from the student’s chosen option and two to three courses that meet requirements in the General Courses section.

Computer Science Certificates

The Computer Science Department offers five short certificate options: App Development with Swift, Computer Programming, Cybersecurity, Networking, and Web and Mobile Applications. These certificate programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level employment. All course work in a certificate program will apply to the corresponding Associate in Applied Science degree.

Associate in Applied Science in Computer Science

computer class 2A student gains admission to the Associate in Applied Science Program by completing the corresponding certificate program. Check with your four-year institution for transferability of courses. The AAS degree program is not designed for transfer.

This curriculum is designed for students planning to enter the field of computer information technology and those, already employed, who need specialized/updated skills required by the computing industry. Options are available for concentrated study in Computer Programming, Cybersecurity, Networking, or Web and Mobile Applications.

Computer Facilities

Jefferson State has state-of-the-art computer labs. Two Apple, one Cisco, and a future Computer Forensics lab. All lab computers are networked and have Internet access except Cisco and Forensics. Open labs are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and Saturday times determined each semester.
