The Criminal Justice Department offers quality undergraduate education that enables students to complete Associate Degrees in Criminal Justice and/or Associate in Applied Science Degrees and Certificates in Law Enforcement. It is a professional and career program that enriches intellectual, political, cultural and civic dialogue and understanding through its diversified curriculum. All degrees are detailed in your Jefferson State Catalog and Student Handbook. Students should review all degree requirements.

The Law Enforcement Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree requires more Criminal Justice hours than the Criminal Justice Associate in Science (AS) transfer degree. However, there are many courses common to both degrees that students may take until a major is selected. Students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree should follow the Criminal Justice Associate in Science (AS) degree plan outlined in the catalog.

For a list of courses that transfer, refer to the Alabama General Studies Committee (AGSC) Approved Course Listing at the beginning of the University Parallel Programs section of the  catalog.

Requirements to receive credit for Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training (APOST), Military, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), etc. can be found in the catalog’s Admissions section under “Credit for Non-Traditional Academic Work.”
