Hands-on Experience in Industrial Maintenance

The Industrial Maintenance Technology program prepares students for a broad range of industrial maintenance related careers using industry guided curriculum combined with practical hands-on labs. 

Our program is part of the Iowa Wind Partnership with wind power manufacturers building promising career paths for community college graduates.

Kirkwood is the affordable option! We offer more than $3 million in scholarships every year. Students in this program may be eligible to have half their tuition paid for by the Kibbie Grant.

Graduates of the Industrial Maintenance Technology program will be able to:

  • Perform applied math functions relating to an industrial environment.
  • Explain and apply industry skills and practices of electrical theory, circuits, and applications.
  • Explain and apply fluid power theory and application, including hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Perform wiring and programming common in primary and control circuit applications.
  • Perform mechanical procedures common in the industrial maintenance field.

  • Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe working environment.

Completion of a program conference is required to be admitted to the program. You’ll learn more about the program as well as specific admissions requirements.

First year studies focus on the concept technologies that include, but are not limited to, basic electrical theory, motors and transformers, industrial controls and wiring, electrical print design and reading, industrial maintenance concepts (mechanical and electrical), applied physics, and mathematics.

During the second year, students are introduced to a broad range of industrial technologies and processes that are commonplace in today's industrial environments.

While in this program, students gain experience and skills in a variety of disciplines, such as basic construction and framing, plumbing, print reading, welding, fabrication, and light machining.
