The Computer Science Department offers a variety of degrees and certificates that can lead to job placement and advancement.  

AS Degree for Transfer (AST): Computer Science

Stem student assisted by instructor at computerThe AS-T degree in Computer Science provides the foundational courses needed by the higher level courses offered at the CSUs. Enrolling and completing our program allows computer science majors to advance directly through the industry recognized sequence of courses. Upon graduation, students can obtain highly successful jobs in software engineering, computer networking, computer security, video game design, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and cyber security.  


 

AS Degree: Computer Applications Support Specialist

Computer Science studentAre you the "go to" person when it comes to computer technology? Do you enjoy helping  family and friends solve their computer problems? You may be interested in an Computer Applications Support Specialist AS degree.  The Computer Applications Support Specialist Associate of Science degree and the Basic and Advanced Certificates of Achievement program will prepare you for a career as a network support specialist, desktop support specialist, and software and/or hardware support specialist.

These jobs require excellent customer service, communication and computer skills and can be found in a variety of organizations, both large and small - in the private or public sectors.

 

  • Associate of Science Degree: Computer Applications Support Specialist

    The Associate of Science degree in Computer Applications Support Specialist will prepare you for entry-level positions and professional advancement in public, private, and governmental agencies. 

    Career paths include network support specialists, desktop support specialists, and software and/or hardware support specialists. These jobs require excellent customer service, communication and computer skills and can be found in a variety of organizations - both large and small - in the private or public sectors.

    In order to earn an AS degree, students must complete all graduation requirements.

AS Degree: Information Technology

Information Technology DegreeAre you ready for an exciting job in IT? You can start preparing for your career in computer forensics and/or networking right now by earning an AS degree in Information Technology.

Folks working in IT must have excellent technical skills along with the ability to investigate and solve problems and/or crimes. Most large companies have an Information Technology department that will require computer technicians, as well as hardware, software, media, or network specialists. Given the rise in computer crimes, viruses, and hacking, the need for computer forensics professionals has increased in the government and private sectors. There are plenty of career opportunities available.

  College Skills Certificates

Stem student working in labComputer Science also offers numerous college skills certificates that are less than 18 units. These certificates can be completed in as little as two semesters. A college skills certificate will be awarded by the department based on the completion of the required course work. 

 

 

  • Foundation

    Foundation

    Students  who have completed the first three courses (listed below) towards the Certificate of Achievement in Computer Science may apply for the Foundation College Skills Certificate.

    Students who obtain this certificate will have basic computer and technology skills necessary to gain employment. These skills include basic computer usage, how to use job-specific programs like Microsoft Office, and how to troubleshoot minor computer problems.

  • Game Design

    Game Design

    Students interested in transferring to a 4-year institute or achieving an entry-level position in the gaming industry need to know a variety of skills that include programming, storyboarding, 3d modeling, animation, drawing, and graphical design skills.

    Our Game Design certificate can help students obtain entry-level positions in the video game industry as a tester, level designer, 3D modeler, 2D and/or 3D artist, skin artist, and storyboard artist.

Students who have completed all of the requirements for an AS degree or Certificate of Achievement will need to complete a graduation petition.
