What is Computer & Information Technology?
Students have the option to study in several areas, including Network Administration, Information Security and Computer Programming.
Students will learn skills in the following areas:
- Computer hardware and software
- Networking concepts
- Computer programming
- Web page development and other Internet technologies
- Network security
- Database design
- Microsoft Office applications
The Computer and Information Technologies (CIT) program leads to an associate of applied science (AAS) degree that prepares you for entry-level positions as information technology professionals. You will learn the skills needed to problem solve and communicate effectively within the complex information technology industry.
The CIT curriculum is supported by a solid foundation of general education and core courses that include writing, communications, computer, and math skills. You will obtain hands-on training to develop skills in local area networks (LANs) and how they operate, computer programming, networking, hardware and software maintenance, database design and web page development.
You will also be prepared to sit for industry-recognized certification exams available at our VUE testing center.
Upon completion of this program, you will be prepared to enter the workforce with established training and a portfolio in hand for prospective employers, or ready to transfer.
What are my career choices?
Employment opportunities include entry-level network administration positions involving installation and administration of local and wide area networks and as a computer support specialist. The growth rate in this area is expected to be rapid over the next five years.

Transfer Agreements
The CIT degree has articulation agreements with Murray State University and Western Kentucky University to allow the student to continue on and complete a bachelor's degree. Murray State will accept the CIT degree, with any option, as the first two years of their Cybersecurity and Network Management (CNM) bachelor's degree. These classes are available online or face-to-face in Murray. Western will accept the CIT degree, with any option, as the first two years of their Computer Information Technology (CIT) bachelor's degree. The classes are available only online. These are wonderful opportunities for students who are interested in information technology and working in the computer field. Other transfer options are available, but in most cases the courses are taken on a case-by-case basis.

Length of Program
The associate in applied science can be completed in 60-64 credit hours depending on the option. This will take two years, assuming that you maintain full-time enrollment status and take 15 credit hours or more each semester.
