Overview

About the program

The Electrical Engineering Technology graduate will be equipped with knowledge in electrical and electronics engineering. They will receive systematic training in electrical power systems and equipment, motors/motor drive, PLCs, robots, human machine interface (HMI) and industrial ethernet. This comprehensive program will prepare students for careers in areas such as electrical power engineering and automation engineering.

Program format(s)

Students enrolled in this program will take traditional, 16-week classes each semester.  

Degree option

Two-year full-time degree schedule; mixture of core engineering, mathematics, and communications courses; program can be completed on a part-time basis.

Internship

The internship is a 150-hour industry work placement, completed during the last term of the program. It is a required part of the degree. Through this internship, students can earn college credit, make valuable professional contacts, and link their classroom studies to real-world workplace challenges. Learning Outcomes

  1. Interpret drawings and diagrams for the installation, troubleshooting and repair of electrical circuits (analog and digital) and power systems
  2. Correctly use standard electronic testing equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, waveform generators and power supplies
  3. Identify components used in electrical power transmission and distribution
  4. Explain the operation of components used in electrical power transmission and distribution
  5. Integrate automation systems that use programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  6. Program PLCs used in automation systems
  7. Troubleshoot automation systems that use PLCs
  8. Install industrial robots
  9. Program industrial robots
  10. Know how to maintain industrial robots
  11. Troubleshoot industrial robots
  12. Adhere to safety while working in a manufacturing or production environment.
