What is Air Conditioning Technology
Installing and servicing heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is the focus of this program. Academic courses, theory courses, and laboratory experiences are designed to promote success in the air conditioning field.
What are my career choices?
You have many options to pursue in refrigeration or heating ventilation and air conditioning. Many students elect to work for a refrigeration and air conditioning contractor, which often leads to self employment. Other common job opportunities include facilities air conditioning maintenance, appliance repair, duct installation, and general service technician.

Some of the courses you will take include Basic Refrigeration, Commercial Refrigeration, Cooling and Dehumidification, Heating and Humidification, HVAC Electricity and Electrical Components.

Diploma
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic: 47-56 credit hours
Certificates
- Environmental Control System Servicer: 24-25 credit hours
- Environmental System Repair Helper: 9-10 credit hours
- Domestic Air Conditioning and Furnace Installer: 35-36 credit hours
- Refrigeration Mechanic: 27-28 credit hours
- Chiller Maintenance: 19 credit hours
- Boiler Maintenance: 20 credit hours

Upon completion of this program, the graduate can:
- Apply Ohm’s Law: measure resistance, voltage, ohms, watts, amps; construct various types of electrical circuits; select wire and fuse sizes and troubleshoot an electric motor coil.
- Apply work principles of physics and mechanics.
- Implement and use Total Quality Management.
- Service and troubleshoot mechanical refrigeration components.
- Know and practice safe working habits.
- Calculate heat gain and heat loss, thereby determining equipment size.
- Use blueprints effectively.
Length of Program
You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status.
