The Associate in Science degree in Early Childhood Education builds on the College Credits Certificates (CCC), while increasing the student’s knowledge base and career opportunities. Students can choose one of the following areas of concentration: General, Preschool, Infant Toddlers or Administrator.

Program Details

The A.S. degree is designed for students who are looking for immediate entry into a career upon graduation. Most discipline courses directly relate to the identified career area. The remaining courses are comprised of general education courses.

Areas of study include:

  • Emergent Literacy through the Use of Children's Literature
  • Working with Children with Special Needs and their Families
  • Facilitating Social Development
  • Family Interaction and Cultural Continuity
  • Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood

Career Prospects

U.S. Department of Education projects a shortage of skilled teachers in the coming years. Graduates of this program will be extremely well positioned for employment, whether in the state of Florida or nationwide. Nearly 100% of graduates of MDC's teaching programs find employment in the field. Graduates may find employment in job roles such as:
