Electronics Technician is one of today’s fastest growing careers, a career that can provide not only a great salary and job security but also exciting work in a field that is always growing and changing. This field has many opportunities including maintenance, design, service and sales in commercial, manufacturing and process industries. The following industries employ electronic technicians: computer industry, consumer electronics industry, robotics industry, utility companies, healthcare, broadcast, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, mining, office equipment, waste-treatment, and any other industries that use electrical/electronic systems

Electronics Technician is a career that includes training which can apply to computers, appliances, communications systems, drones, radio controlled devices, and all sorts of current, new, and upcoming technologies.  The applications are endless and the field is wide. Automation is where the world is going and automation is a path in this field.

This field has many opportunities including electronic repair, servicing, upgrades, maintenance, design, automation, and engineering.

Program Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the daily activities of a technician in an industrial setting.
2. Apply basic troubleshooting and calibration skills to common electronic or electromechanical equipment.
3. Interact successfully with technical staff while analyzing simple to moderately complex problems
associated with automated manufacturing.
4. Execute accepted documentation practices for maintenance and calibration of electronic equipment.
5. Apply ethical principles responsibilities in the profession.
6. Recognize the need for life-long learning in a world of technological change.
7. The student will compose coherent, unified written documents that demonstrate correct mechanics and style, as well as appropriate documentation of sources.
8. The student will use appropriate evidence and sound reasoning in making decisions.

Students will know how to control conveyors, motors, robotics, and more. This degree will fall in between an automation programmer and an automation operator. Graduates will be prepared for direct employment in all automation roles in the field including automobile manufacturing, metal manufacturing, production plants, process control automation, etc.

There is a lack of trained automation workers in the workforce. Most companies retrain their labor workers to perform in the automation field due to lack of pre trained workers. With 26% of all manual labor jobs projected to go to robotics and automation in the next ten years workers are scrambling to find automation training.

Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers gives students the skills to become a “Automation System Operator”.  This job pays $20-$40 and hour starting pay and is usually a $40 an hour job.  The job entails operation and control of an automation system in an industrial environment and may include some troubleshooting.   

ELT 150 Intro. To PLC/PAC  Spring 2021 5-8:30pm Tuesday and Thursday in the 1st 8 weeks only. 

Ladder Logic – In this course you gain the skill as a “Ladder Logic Programmer”.  This job usually compensates $60,000 to $80,000 yearly.  Having the operator and programmer skill makes for extremely valuable assets to a business. 

ELT 180 Ladder Logic  Spring 2021  5-8:30pm Tuesday and Thursday in the 2nd 8 weeks only. 

Project Development – This course will finishes up the degree.  It will tie Logic Functions, Ladder Logic, Design Skills and Field Devices together to make a complete “Advanced Automation Technology” plant implementor just short of an engineer.
