Diesel Technology Training

Diesel Mechanic and Diesel Technician Training

The Diesel Technology training program at North American Trade Schools provides entry-level training for students in the Baltimore, Maryland, area. Students who graduate from our program will be ready for a career as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Technician and have the opportunity to obtain their Class A CDL. Students of our program will learn skills such as diesel repair, maintenance, failure analysis, and diagnosis. Graduates will also be trained in operations, maintenance, rebuilding, and troubleshooting.

Location: 6901 Security Boulevard, Baltimore, Maryland 21244

Length: 39 weeks (daytime classes) or 58 weeks (evening classes)

Cost: $19,525 if completed within the expected time frame

Schedule: The Diesel Technology Program is available for weekday and evening classes.

Upon Completion: Once the course is completed, students will be eligible to earn diesel certifications from Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Mercedes Benz, ESCO EPA 609, and Cummins Insite, along with getting a jump on qualifying for ASE certifications.

The following states do not have licensure requirements for the diesel technician profession: Maryland

Diesel Technology Training with CDL Training

North American Trade Schools offers the same Diesel Technology program with CDL training. Training students to become diesel technicians and then allowing them to obtain the Class A CDL to pair makes them much more desirable to employers. Students will gain familiarity by learning to operate commercial trucks and tractor-trailers and having the opportunity to take their CDL exam after completing the program.

Length: 1440 total hours

Schedule: The Diesel Technology Program with CDL is available for weekday and evening classes.

Upon Completion: Students will have the same certifications and training as the regular Diesel Technology program and their Class A CDL.

What will you learn through our Diesel Technology Program?

In our Diesel Technology Program here in Baltimore, MD, you will learn all of the information and skills necessary to have a successful career as a diesel technician. Students will learn how a diesel engine works from the outside in and the inside out. In our program, students will be trained on the following topics:

  • Electrical and electronic fundamentals
  • Powertrain systems which include automatic and standard transmissions
  • Rear differentials and related components
  • Hydraulic braking systems
  • ABS systems
  • Pneumatic braking systems and electronic braking
  • Suspension systems such as leaf spring, air ride (airbags), and steering systems
  • Communication with the computers on trucks
  • Troubleshoot problems using computers
  • Engine fundamentals and fuel systems

At North American Trade Schools, we focus on setting our students up for success. Jobs today are leaning towards the growing relationship between computer technology and transportation. Computers are changing transportation daily, and technicians with an understanding of computers and how they relate to the industry will lead the way. As we move into a future of automated and self-driving vehicles and automated machinery, someone will always have to program, diagnose, and repair them. Throughout the Diesel Technology Program, students will be prepared for jobs today and jobs of the future.

Diesel Technician Career Opportunities

The term “Diesel Technician” or “Diesel Mechanic” is used to designate someone who performs repairs for diesel engines and other diesel-powered equipment in the field. With the knowledge students gain from North American Trade Schools, graduates can go into many different fields such as engine repair, diesel technology, fleet maintenance, transmission specialist, and electrical/electronic specialist (diagnosing and repairing computer problems). Diesel technicians can work in many different fields such as trucking, railways, heavy equipment, or one of the many oil field positions available throughout the country or locally.
