Computer Information systems & Technology Program details

Students will earn an Occupation Skills Award (OSA) and a Level 1 Certificate, and then head on the way to an AAS Computer Information Systems & Technology Degree.

  • Courses applied to the OSA will prepare students for a career at a Computer Help Desk, which is a great starting point for any entry-level IT professional. 

  • Courses applied to the Level 1 Certificate will give students the skills and knowledge needed to secure a role in IT assisting with technical and network issue troubleshooting. 

  • The AAS Degree in Computer Information Systems & Technology will equip students with the insight to advance in an IT career focused on solving and reporting on computer hardware, software, network issues and more. From here, you can really go anywhere in the high-tech computer and information system industry.

Computer Help Desk OSA

The OSA can be completed through a mix of in-person and online classes. It takes one semester to complete.

Level 1 Certificate

This certificate can be completed through a mix of face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes. Several courses are offered in an 8-week term, rather than a 16-week term. The program takes two semesters to complete. Upon completion of the Level 1 Certificate, students will be able to:

  • Communicate technical issues related to computer hardware, software, and networks through presentations and reports.

  • Comprehend and resolve common desktop and network issues.

If you complete a certificate then want to complete the degree, the classes you’ve taken will readily transfer to the degree program.

Capstone Requirement: Students completing the certificate must pass a comprehensive program exam with a score of 70% or higher to satisfy the capstone requirement. Exam must be scheduled with the Division Chair.

Computer Information Systems & Technology AAS

The AAS degree can be completed through a mix of in-person, hybrid, and online classes. Several courses are offered in an 8-week term, rather than a 16-week term. The program takes two years to complete. Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree, students will be able to:

  • Communicate technical issues related to computer hardware, software, and networks through presentations and reports.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot common hardware issues.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot common software issues.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in teams.

Capstone Requirement: ITSC 2380 Cooperative Education - Computer and Information Sciences is a capstone experience and may not be substituted. It should be taken the last semester before graduation. The cooperative education course combines classroom learning with work experience and a lecture component.
