Water Treatment Technology

NOW OFFERED ON BOTH NMCC AND SMCC CAMPUS!

The need for trained water treatment technicians across Maine and the United States is growing. In an effort to help alleviate the shortage in Maine, NMCC is partnering with SMCC to deliver both certificate and associate degree level water treatment technology training on the South Portland campus, in collaboration with our program on the NMCC campus. While state-of-the-art technology enables students to access lectures from anywhere, hands-on laboratory-based exercises, under the direction of a qualified faculty member, will now be held on both campuses.

The Water Treatment Technology Program provides students a fundamental understanding of the scientific principles used to treat drinking water as well as sanitize wastewater before it is discharged back into the environment.

Students will learn industry theory and gain “hands-on” experience using laboratory exercises to better understand the information across the spectrum — from the basics to an in-depth study of Water and Wastewater Treatment.

Graduates of the WTT Program will find employment opportunities within a number of water-based industries.  The State of Maine has an immediate and growing need for qualified water and wastewater treatment plant operators.  Other industries that will consider a successful graduate are laboratory analysis and chemical processing as well as sales positions in businesses that support these fields.
