Wind Power Technology

The Wind Power Technology program is a 9-month certificate pathway designed to prepare technicians to enter this rapidly emerging industry. The program offers broad fundamental training in the electrical, electronic, and mechanical aspects of the wind power industry, with a focus on wind turbine maintenance and electrical power production. The National Electrical Code and theory are taught throughout the program. Applicants must be comfortable climbing and not afraid of heights; safety training is included.

Since its inception in 2010, NMCC’s Wind Power program has been New England’s premier wind training institution, taught by recognized industry leader Wayne Kilcollins. NMCC also works with Maine Maritime Academy to complete offshore safety training, preparing students to work on Offshore Wind Turbines being deployed in coming years off of the Maine Coast and other coastal regions.

Graduates of the program have found employment opportunities with wind farm operators, turbine manufacturers, and contractors providing maintenance and turbine support both locally and globally. New wind projects are being approved regularly throughout New England and beyond.

*NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY* A new scholarship pays for eligible students’ tuition, housing, food, tools, and books, asking that students only cover $1,000 of their total costs. After applying, ask your Financial Aid advisor about the Wind Power Scholarship. Priority goes to students who enroll first, and takes into consideration aptitude for mechanics, math, and science, and the overall qualification of the applicant.
