Welding Technology

Welding is the most common method of permanently joining metal parts. Welders use heat to combine metals, build structures and repair seams. Welding is used in numerous industries such as automobile manufacturing and repair, shipbuilding, mining operations, aerospace applications, energy and power operations, and other manufacturing activities. Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) offers a nationally recognized Welding Technology program.

Our Associate of Applied Science degree and Certificate of Completion options in Welding Technology will provide you the necessary skills and instruction to enter the welding industry. As a Welding student at NWCCD, you will have the opportunity to enter a career field within the welding industry that is rewarding and offers some of the highest wages in the job market.

Our award-wining faculty will guide you through major welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW and Oxy fuel.  Our instructors are highly qualified, American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspectors and Certified Welding Educators.

We offer a variety of required courses and electives to our Welding students, including Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Basic Pipe Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and more. Many related courses such as Print Reading and Welding Symbols, Safety, and Metallurgy are also available at NWCCD.

As a Welding student at NWCCD, you will experience small class sizes, low faculty-to-student ratios and excellent faculty guidance.

Industry Outlook

Employment opportunities are prevalent for welders entering the industry. High-paying jobs are open in both heavy and light industry throughout Wyoming, the nation and the world.  Advanced technology in industries such as coal mining and manufacturing across the U.S. provide new job opportunities for welders. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that by 2026 nearly 22,500 new jobs will be added to this field of welders, cutters, solderers and brazers.

Our Welding program is highly respected across the state and the nation. Our Welding faculty have earned national awards, including the Outstanding Technical Faculty of the Year from the American Technician Education Association (ATEA). Our students have also earned recognition from the ATEA with the Outstanding Technical Student of the Year honor.

Our NWCCD Welding program is geared to place you into the welding industry along with supportive faculty who have extensive backgrounds in the welding profession. Our approach to welding centers on hands-on instruction provided in lecture and lab settings.

NWCCD has strong relationships with local and national industries in mining, construction and manufacturing. These partnerships allow our students to gain real-world experience in professional settings during their time as students, often earning job offers before graduation.
