OFTC Pharmacy Technology students train on state of the art equipment in the college’s simulated retail and institutional pharmacy labs, learn how to complete simulated prescription filling processes, compound sterile and non-sterile products, package long term care unit dose cards, train in automation, and gain vital customer care skills. At the conclusion of the program, students are prepared to start their careers and equipped to take and pass the Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification exam.
The Pharmacy Technology degree program offered by Oconee Fall Line Technical College is accredited by ASHP (American Society for Health System Pharmacists) and ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) upon recommendation of the ASHP and ACPE Boards of Directors. Programs in the Pharmacy department can be completed between 4 – 5 semesters.
A pharmacy technician career is a stable one with ample employment opportunities and increasing demand. Demand for pharmacy services is expected to increase because of the large number of older people, who typically use more prescription medicines than younger people. Higher rates of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, among all age groups also will lead to increased demand for prescription medications. In addition, pharmacy technicians will be needed to take on a greater role in pharmacy operations because pharmacists are increasingly performing more patient care activities.
With the Pell Grant, Georgia’s HOPE Grant, HOPE Scholarship, and HOPE Career Grant (for students/programs who qualify) and other scholarship opportunities, many students graduate OFTC with little to no debt.

Many well-paid pharmacy technicians work their way to advanced positions or use their career as a steppingstone to different healthcare careers. Technicians have the option to advance in a variety of specializations, including managerial or instructional roles, compounding, sterile products admixture, oncology, IV meds, and nuclear pharmacy.

Students may begin core courses any semester and compete to enter the Pharmacy Technology programs each fall semester.
Classes are offered in a variety of formats: on campus, blended, online asynchronous, and synchronous technology. While general education core courses are offered in a variety of formats, program and occupational course formats may be more limited depending on the program. Talk with a program advisor for details.
These are courses that are taught primarily in the classroom or lab with less than 50% of instruction online. On campus courses may include lecture, labs, internships, clinicals, and other in-person instructional modalities.
Blended courses are distance learning courses with the majority of the course content, activities, and interactions occurring online but may require students to come to campus for specific assignments, activities, or events.
These are courses that are taught fully online asynchronously with course content, activities, and interactions occurring entirely online. This delivery method does not require students to be online at a specific date or time, and students may participate in class activities and complete course assignments asynchronously. Online asynchronous courses require proctored events.
OFTC also utilizes synchronous technology to offer courses via distance education means. The course is taught on one campus and then broadcast simultaneously to a classroom on a different campus that is monitored by a class proctor.
