The Vocational Education program provides students skills needed to excel in a variety of vocational careers.

Dedicated to providing students with expert skills and knowledge to excel in vocational careers including Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, General Construction, and Office Technology, the Department of Vocational Studies at Oglala Lakota College is renowned for its impact on the tribal communities of South Dakota and the surrounding states.

Automotive Service Application

A.A.S. Automotive Technology

With 284.5 million registered vehicles in the United States alone, the importance of growing the Automotive Technology industry’s trained workforce is not just a need. It is a necessity. To best prepare the automotive techs of tomorrow, OLC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology.

Students pursuing their A.A.S. in Automotive Technology can be expected to enjoy hands-on, real-world experience as they explore the vast strategies, processes, and best practices in preparation for ASE’s Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests – the foremost certification for automotive repair professionals.

By graduation, you’ll be able to apply theory of vehicle operating systems, diagnose vehicle operating systems, repair vehicle operating systems, and interpret service information – best ensuring they enter their respective career field with the skills they need to succeed. (2 year program)

A.A.S. Electrical Technology

As one of the fastest growing industries in the world, Oglala Lakota College is proud to offer its students the opportunity to pursue an Associates of Applied Arts in Electrical Technology. Providing students with the varied applied knowledge and skills necessary to procure an electrical apprenticeship before becoming journeyman electricians, students can expect to finish their program with all the tools they need to succeed.

Perhaps most importantly, all students enrolled in this program will graduate with one-and-a-half years completed of the four year electrical apprenticeship needed to become a journeyman electrician. Related courses of study range from ethics in the workplace to the fundamentals of electrical systems.

By graduation, you’ll be able to classify the use of common electrical materials, analyze blueprints and isometric drawings, demonstrate proper techniques and procedures for the installation of light fixtures, outlets, and household equipment, and apply knowledge of model electrical code rules and regulations. (2 year program)

A.A.S. General Construction

Make your mark on the growth of our tribal communities by harnessing the skills and experience necessary to become a skilled general construction worker in a variety of capacities. With Oglala Lakota College’s Associate of Applied Science degree program in General Construction, you’ll enjoy spending time in the classroom learning and in the field applying your knowledge of construction guidelines, best practices, and more.

Designed to balance classroom learning with applied learning, students pursuing their A.A.S. in General Construction will be provided with the training necessary to succeed in any general construction capacity, while learning from seasoned industry professionals. Additionally, students can expect to make a guaranteed mark on our tribal communities through their participation in Oyate Kici Kaga .

By graduation, you’ll possess framing skills, be able to apply interior finish techniques, know how to perform exterior finish applications, and be capable of performing estimating and print reading functions – all applied with a vast knowledge of building code rules and regulations. With these acquired skills, students will be prepared to enter the workforce as apprentices in a variety of roles in the construction industry. (2 year program)

A.A.S. Office Technology

Develop the foundation of a successful career in administrative work with Oglala Lakota College’s exceptional Associate of Applied Science degree program in Office Technology. Often the catalysts for success in business, administrative professionals are involved in nearly every aspect of business, performing a variety of crucial processes on a daily basis.

With an A.A.S. in Office Technology, you’ll be prepared to make your mark in the world of business with skills applicable in any business setting. From navigating the fundamentals of record keeping to developing the crucial skills necessary to effectively communicate in a business setting, you’ll be challenged in your coursework to become an informed, and experienced administrative professional.

By graduation, you’ll be able to utilize computers and other technology for general office applications, exhibit ethical behavior in an office setting, apply bookkeeping and recordkeeping procedures, and explain social behaviors and interactions between individuals, groups and institutions. Pairing in-classroom learning with a required internship in office technology, you’ll find great personal reward and professional growth in your two years at OLC. (2 year program)
