Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree

The Associate in Arts transfer degree equals the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. By earning your A.A. degree at PBSC, you are guaranteed admission to one of Florida's public universities to complete your bachelor’s degree. You also may transfer to certain private institutions or PBSC bachelor's programs. Our A.A. degree advising tracks will help guide you in selecting general education and elective courses that fit your desired upper-division major and the requirements of your chosen transfer school. Always work with your PBSC academic advisor in making your final choices.

 

There are two options for completing the A.A. degree.

Option 1: 15 to Finish: 4 semesters with 15 credits per semester  |  Option 2: Flex to Finish: 6+ semesters with 6-11 credits per semester.

A.A. Degree - Business Tracks

 

Business Degrees & Certificates

At PBSC, you can choose from many business career pathways. Each certificate and degree is a stepping-stone, either to the job market or to the next level in your education. 

Degrees:

  • AS: Associate in Science degrees prepare you for skilled employment or transfer to PBSC’s bachelor's programs and possibly other institutions.
  • BAS: Bachelor of Applied Science degrees give associate degree graduates the option to earn a career-focused bachelor’s degree.

Certificates:

  • ATC: Advanced Technical Certificates offer specialty training in technical fields for people with degrees (associate and above). 
  • CCC: College Credit Certificates give you marketable skills as well as college credits that can transfer to an associate degree.
  • CCP: Career Certificate Programs prepare you for high-skill, high-demand jobs.

 

Accounting

Overview

Accounting information drives business decisions, and when you know the “language of business,” you can go anywhere.

 

Accounting Technology - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

In this A.S. degree program, students learn accounting principles and practices, business tax rules, and financial analysis and reporting, while gaining hands-on experience with accounting and bookkeeping software. You'll be ready to work as a paraprofessional accountant, an assistant to a certified public accountant or as a full-charge bookkeeper with management duties.   

Graduates may pursue the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management at PBSC. Transfer to certain bachelor's degree programs at other colleges and universities is possible as well. 


Accounting Technology - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

Ready with the knowledge of how to organize and maintain accounting records and prepare financial reports, graduates of this CCC program will be excellent candidates for entry-level employment as accounting clerks or junior accountants. This program also serves to refresh skills for workforce re-entry or career advancement.  

Credits earned in this CCC transfer to the A.S. degree in Accounting Technology. 

 

Business Administration & Management

Overview

Build a strong foundation in core business concepts and best practices while gaining marketable skills in key business functions, such as operations, finance, communications and human resources. 

  

Business Administration and Management - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

Achieve the ultimate in career marketability with this customizable A.S. degree. The curriculum combines your concentration area courses with essential knowledge and skills in critical business areas, such as economics, operations, accounting and communications. This well-rounded business degree includes an optional internship and an independent research project. In addition to a career, graduates may pursue a bachelor’s degree in supervision and management at PBSC or possibly other institutions.  

Two Concentration Areas:  

Management, Supervision Concentration

This concentration in the Business Administration and Management A.S. degree gives students a solid background in business that prepares them for a variety of positions in all types of industries and government or for advancement in a current position.

Course content covers management, accounting, marketing, economics, business law and more. 

 

Risk Management and Insurance Concentration

This concentration in the Business Administration and Management A.S. degree prepares students to enter the high-demand field of risk management and insurance.

Along with core business subjects, students gain an understanding of personal and business property insurance, insurance planning, agency management and insurance sales. Graduates are ready to pursue a wide range of career paths, including as an account executive, risk analyst, underwriter, loss control specialist, claims adjuster and more.


Business Administration and Management - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

Start or enhance a business career with this 24-credit CCC program. You'll develop an understanding of management principles, business communications, human relations in business, computer applications and more.  

Credits from this program transfer into the A.S. degree in Business Administration and Management, Supervision, Management concentration.

 

Business Operations - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

This 18-credit CCC prepares students for entry-level employment by building knowledge and skills in planning, organizing and running a business.

Credits from this program transfer into the A.S. degree in Business Administration and Management, Supervision, Management concentration.

 

Business Specialist - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

This 12-credit CCC increases entry-level job prospects through a focus on business fundamentals.

Credits from this program transfer into the A.S. degree in Business Administration and Management, Supervision, Management concentration.

 

Overview

Offered 100% online, this certificate is for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree (or higher) and want to gain project management expertise to further their careers.

 

Project Management - Certificate of Professional Preparation (CPP)

This CPP concentrates on project management fundamentals, focusing on all knowledge areas covered in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)®: project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, procurement, human resource, communications and risk management. Students will gain an understanding of all phases of a project life cycle from initiation, planning and execution to monitoring, controlling and closing.

Courses cover competencies for several certifications including the Project Management Institute's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® and Project Management Professional (PMP)®. Employers look for and value PMI certifications. 

Overview

In this program, students gain an understanding of the insurance industry and prepare to obtain key insurance licenses.

 

Risk Management and Insurance Operations - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

Get ready to enter a field with job stability and a wide range of career paths. This CCC gives students an understanding of risk management and insurance concepts, the roles of personal and business insurance, and how to identify insurance needs. Students learn the scope, terms and clauses of insurance contracts and how they are applied to risks and losses. Graduates are ready to seek employment as account managers, personal lines agents, claims adjusters, customer service representatives, insurance office assistants or risk analysts. 

Credits from this program transfer into the A.S. degree in Business Administration and Management, Risk Management and Insurance concentration.

Overview

The Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs and offers four concentration areas: Entrepreneurship, General Management, Health Management and Project Management. After earning this bachelor’s degree, students are eligible to apply for graduate study at a public or private university.

 

Supervision and Management - Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) Degree

Guided by expert faculty, the two-year B.A.S. degree in Supervision and Management offers an in-depth exploration of business principles and practices, making it the perfect next step for A.S. and A.A. degree graduates. You can personalize your choice of a concentration area and create a flexible schedule with face-to-face and online classes. Internship opportunities allow you to gain relevant work experience and make career contacts.

Entrepreneurship Concentration

Build the dynamic knowledge base needed to start your own business or innovate in any environment. New businesses are a powerful force in the nation’s economy, driving innovation and new opportunities. Entrepreneurship is not only a viable career option, it also embodies a skill set valued by companies in all industries. Whether you wish to start a business immediately or put your ideas to work in an established organization, this concentration will provide the knowledge and tools you’ll need to make your vision a reality.  A key feature of the degree is the Internship Elective, which prepares students to gain hands-on experience or training in their field of interest.

 

General Management Concentration

Every field requires effective managers. With your B.A.S. degree in Supervision & Management, General Management, you’ll be ready to begin or advance in a rewarding career in the industry sector and functional area of your choice. A key feature of the degree is the Internship Elective, which prepares students to gain hands-on experience or training in a field of interest.

 

Health Management Concentration

With your B.A.S. degree in Supervision & Management, Health Management, you’ll be prepared to advance in a wide range of leadership careers in health care organizations. A key feature of the degree is the Internship Elective, which prepares students to gain hands-on experience or training in their field of interest.

 

Project Management Concentration

Bring value to organizations that need high-performing individuals to drive business results. Project managers are responsible for all aspects of a project for the life of the project — but what is a project? In business terms, a project is an undertaking with specific goals, deliverables and deadlines outside of the normal day-to-day operation of an enterprise. Project managers work with people from various functional areas and locations, coordinate special budgets and resources, and oversee project execution. People with project management expertise are in increasing demand as organizations are under pressure to meet multiple unique needs and deliver results on time and on budget.

Graduates of this degree concentration will meet the education requirements for leading industry credentials from the Project Management Institute. Employers place great importance on PMI credentials, such as the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® and Project Management Professional (PMP)®.

 

 

Entrepreneurship

Overview

Explore that urge to be your own boss! Learn the fundamentals of planning and managing a startup, as well as proven marketing and sales strategies. You have the desire, now find out what it takes to start a business or expand an existing one.

 

 

Business Entrepreneurship - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

Learn how to launch and operate a business, while developing your potential as an entrepreneur or intrapreneur—someone who innovates within an established company. Increase your knowledge of sales and marketing, e-commerce, financing and staffing. Explore your startup ideas and build real-world skills, such as how to recognize opportunities and develop business plans. Graduates are ready to start a business, manage a small company or work in a business development capacity.  

Graduates also may pursue the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management at PBSC, which has an Entrepreneurship concentration. Transfer to certain bachelor's degree programs at other colleges and universities is possible as well. 


Entrepreneurship - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

Find out what it takes to start your own business and gain confidence as you learn to plan, manage and market a new venture. This CCC program works for those who are considering self-employment for the first time, or already have a business and want to take it to the next level.

If you decide to continue your education, all credits can be applied toward the A.S. degree in Business Entrepreneurship.

 

 

Insurance

Overview

Become a licensed claims adjuster through this 40-hour Career Certificate Program, approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Insurance Agent and Agency Services.

 

Insurance Claims Adjuster - Career Certificate Program (CCP)

Insurance claims adjusters use their expertise to investigate, process and settle claims. Students who pass this state-approved pre-licensing course receive the Accredited Claims Adjuster designation and are eligible to apply for the Florida ACA 5-20 or 6-20 license without further examination. This course also meets the state education requirement for the Public Adjuster Apprentice (3-21) license.

 

Overview

Start or recharge an insurance career through this 60-hour Career Certificate Program, approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Insurance Agent and Agency Services.

 

Life, Health and Variable Annuities Agent - Career Certificate Program (CCP)

Prepare to take the Florida 2-15 licensing exam to become a life insurance agent, which includes selling health insurance and variable annuities. This state-approved course satisfies the pre-licensing requirement, covering such topics as insurance terminology and concepts, federal and state regulations, and legal contracts, as well as employability skills to help you succeed.  

Overview

Launch a rewarding insurance career through this 200-hour Career Certificate Program, approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Insurance Agent and Agency Services.

 

Property and Casualty/General Lines Agent - Career Certificate Program (CCP)

Get ready to take the Florida 2-20 licensing exam to become a general lines agent. In this state-approved pre-licensing course, you'll learn about all lines of property and casualty insurance, including auto, fire and allied lines, general liability, homeowner's insurance, crime and surety, workers’ compensation, inland and ocean marine, aviation, and boiler machinery. Experienced instructors also focus on career skills that every agent needs.  


 

 

Marketing

Overview

Get ready for the challenges and rewards of a marketing career. Learn to plan, direct and coordinate marketing programs that maximize the success of products and services.

 

 

Marketing Management - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

Develop the knowledge and skills needed to create marketing strategies and oversee major marketing functions, including advertising and promotion, merchandising, sales, operations, finance, personnel and market research. Including independent research and an optional internship, this dynamic A.S. degree equips students for marketing management careers in all types of businesses.

Graduates may pursue the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management at PBSC. Transfer to certain bachelor's degree programs at other colleges and universities is possible as well. 


Marketing Operations -  College Credit Certificate (CCC)

Start or advance your career with a solid foundation in marketing. Prepare for entry-level positions in marketing, advertising or public relations, or if you have experience already, this certificate will boost your marketing skills and credentials.  

Graduates of this CCC program may put their earned credits toward Palm Beach State's A.S. degree in Marketing Management.

 

 

Paralegal

Overview

Educated paralegals are in demand and highly valued at law firms, corporations, banks, real estate offices, insurance companies and government agencies. While paralegals do not give legal advice, represent clients or provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law, they are an indispensable part of a legal team.

 

Paralegal - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

Paralegals support attorneys in the delivery of legal services by conducting legal research, gathering evidence, drafting legal documents and preparing for trial. In this A.S. degree program, you’ll learn about various types of law (business, real estate, immigration, etc.), court procedures, and legal writing and research. Elective courses in criminal and family law, among other topics, complete this program.

This program is approved by the American Bar Association.

Graduates may sit for the national exam to become a Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants.

Graduates also may pursue the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Supervision and Management at PBSC. Transfer to certain bachelor's degree programs at other colleges and universities is possible as well. 

 


Paralegal - Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC)

This ATC program is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree and wish to embark on this fascinating career in the legal profession.

Graduates may sit for the national exam to become a Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants.

 

 

Real Estate

Overview

Qualify for the real estate profession and build a dynamic career. This program is approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Real Estate.

 

Real Estate Sales Associate - Career Certificate Program (CCP) 

Real estate sales associates are licensed professionals who work under the direction of a broker or owner/developer in the selling/leasing of properties. This 63-hour CCP is a state-approved pre-licensing course that covers the basic principles and practices of real estate sales, as well as economic and legal issues. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the Sales Associate state license exam.   


 

Overview

Satisfy the state requirement for post-licensing education while you further develop the knowledge and skills needed for sales success. This program is approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Real Estate.

 

Real Estate Sales Associate Post-Licensing - Career Certificate Program (CCP) 

This 45-hour CCP offers the required post-licensing education for licensed sales associates. Students build on their expertise and study topics that are crucial for a successful real estate sales career, including legal issues, listing, selling and financing real property, analyzing and managing investment property, and strategies for business planning and time management.   

 

 

Supply Chain & Logistics

Overview

Palm Beach County is a major hub for international shipping, driving demand for employees with expertise in logistics, transportation and distribution.  

 

 

Global Logistics and Supply Chain Technology - Career Certificate Program (CCP) 

This short-term CCP prepares students to work in transportation, distribution and logistics operations, including ports, carriers, distribution warehouses and third-party logistics firms. Students graduate with an understanding of global logistics and supply chain technology, transportation systems, warehouse operations and the principles of economics to solve supply chain problems.

 

Overview

The fast-growing supply chain industry offers career advancement and excellent salary potential across all industries and business categories. Virtually any organization that has products to produce, transport and sell needs supply chain professionals.

 

Logistics and Transportation Specialist - College Credit Certificate (CCC)

This College Credit Certificate program gets students ready to handle a range of responsibilities that impact supply chain performance. Students gain marketable skills in logistics information systems, materials and inventory planning, transportation and distribution, and managing the supply chain from raw materials to delivered products.

All credits from this CCC transfer into Palm Beach State’s A.S. degree in Supply Chain Management.

Palm Beach State College collaborated with industry leaders to align its supply chain programs to the hiring needs of local manufacturers and retailers, carriers and ports, and distribution facilities.

 

Supply Chain Management - Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

Supply chain professionals have become indispensable, and this A.S. degree prepares you to add value to any organization’s supply chain. Students gain a working knowledge of the major functions of supply chain management and the practical applications of supply chain modeling, financial accounting and economics.
