May 2025 Admission

The Dental Assisting (PSVC-DA) program admits students once a year in May. Applications are accepted year-round. Applicants who meet the criteria are admitted for the next available start term.

The program is only offered at the West Campus in New Port Richey.

Students must submit all program admission requirements to be considered. Once an application packet is submitted, it cannot be amended. Students who do not meet the current criteria, or who submit an incomplete application, have the option to reapply to the program once the limited access fee is repaid.

Application Checklist

  • PHSC general application with a $25 non-refundable fee for new students or a PHSC Readmission application for returning PHSC students not enrolled for more than 3 consecutive terms.
  • Certificate in Dental Assisting application.
  • Payment of the separate $25 non-refundable Limited Access Dental Assisting application fee payable in WISE after your application has been submitted.
  • Official high school transcript with graduation date indicating receipt of a standard high school diploma or an official transcript of GED scores indicating receipt of a high school equivalency diploma, if not already submitted.
  • Official transcripts from each U.S. College and university attended other than PHSC.
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Job Outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor projects employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 22% from 2018 to 2026.

Job Potential Earnings

According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Labor Market Statistics, the median salary for Dental Assistants is approximately $18.60 per hour.

Special Notice

  • This is a limited access program with 18 seats available per year with a new class starting every May.
  • Graduates of this program meet EFDA and radiography qualifications for the State of Florida.
  • This program is only offered at the West campus in New Port Richey.
  • CPR certification, PHSC Course NCH 0050, American Heart Association "Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers" is a requirement of this program. 
    • In order to receive a certificate, students must obtain satisfactory scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (Form 9 or 10) with a minimum grade of 10th grade in reading, language and mathematics or an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university will satisfy the TABE requirements.
  • A physical examination certifying satisfactory health is required.
  • Clinical agencies require the student to submit a criminal background check.
