The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program is the result of a collaborative partnership between Seminole State College and Gordon Cooper Technology Center (GCTC). Students complete general education requirements and technical-occupational support requirements primarily on the SSC campus. PTA
lecture/lab courses are completed at the Shawnee campus of GCTC. Clinical coursework takes place at assigned affiliate clinical sites.

Program Objective:
The objective of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program is to prepare students for immediate employment as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an Associate in Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant and be eligible to take the National Physical Therapist Assistant Licensure Exam.

PTA Program Application Requirements:

  1. Completed application
  2. Official Transcripts for all collegiate level academic work including degrees conferred Proof of residence (if qualified to receive GCTC points for residence)
  3. Evidence of any completed GCTC Allied Health Programs
  4. ACT Composite Score of 19 (Taken within the last 5 years)
  5. Completed essays
  6. Evidence of prior work in a health related field (must include timeline)
  7. Documentation of 40 observation hours completed in a minimum of 2 settings on SSC-GCTC PTA Program Observation Form
  8. Proof of current CPR

Admission Requirements

  1. High School graduation or G.E.D.
  2. Acceptance to Seminole State College.
  3. Acceptance into the SSC-GCTC PTA Program.
  4. GPA of 2.0 and “C” or better in all required courses.
  5. ACT Composite score of 19 (Taken within past 5 years).
  6. Attendance of PTA Program Orientation.
  7. Submit required and complete immunization records.
  8. Completion of background check in accordance with state and federal requirements.

Graduation Requirements

  1. At least sixty-seven designated semester credit hours.
  2. Grade of "C" or better required in all courses.
  3. Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better.
  4. Thirty-six credit hours in attendance at SSC.
  5. Completion of Graduate Exit Survey.

Majoring in Physical Therapist Assistant
Selecting physical therapist assistant as a major is open to all SSC students and can be accomplished through an advisor just like any other SSC major field of study.
