In the world of fire and emergency operations, conditions change quickly as does the knowledge needed to lead the response. The Fire Science program is open to students interested in a career in fire science. To successfully earn the certificate or degree, students will complete a nationally recognized Firefighter I and II training academy which is available through Sedalia Fire Department. The academy requires strenuous physical activities in addition to classroom material.

About the Program

This program is designed to assist students prepared for entry level positions with fire departments (and related fields) as well as provide additional training for veteran firefighters to seek promotional opportunities with their current agencies.

All fire science classes are offered online in 8 week format while the general education classes can be taken at any of SFCC’s campuses. To successfully earn the certificate or degree, students must complete a nationally recognized Firefighter I and II training academy offered outside SFCC. Many fire departments offer such training such as the Sedalia Fire Department. Once this is completed, students will be awarded credit for their completion and towards the degree or certificate by SFCC. The college does not provide this academy training program as part of its curriculum. The academy requires strenuous physical activities in addition to classroom material.
