Surgical Technology

This program prepares students with hands-on training that enables them to train under the supervision of surgeons, registered operating room nurses and surgical technologists in many surgical procedures. The content includes communication and interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology, asepsis and sterilization techniques, surgical procedures, safe use and care of equipment and supplies, CPR, employability skills and basic computer literacy. This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon recommendation from the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.


This occupation has an average wage of $21.86 an hour, based on the Florida Occupational Employment and Wages for Polk County

Traviss Technical College Surgical Technology Certification Exam Passing Rate for 2021 is 70%.

The program mission is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the
cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior)
learning domains to enter the profession.
