Program Description

The Certificate of Achievement, Diesel General Service Technician is a one and a half year, three-semester training program designed to prepare the student to enter the medium and heavy duty transportation industry with the skills to be a successful mechanic/technician. This certificate emphasizes principles of operation along with diagnostic and repair procedures. All general service training may be applied toward other diesel degree programs and also prepares students for ASE T-series of exams to become nationally certified.

Program Requirements

Certificates of Achievement are a set of courses that can serve as a stepping stone to an associate degree or allow students to enter the workforce.  Certificates of Achievement have a general education component.

To earn a Certificate of Achievement, students must:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (see requirements for graduation.)
  2. Complete a minimum of 15 semester credit hours within the college.
  3. Satisfy General Education requirements for the Certificate of Achievement.
  4. Have no financial or library obligation to the college.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the certificate will:

PSLO1: Identify and implement safety procedures involved in diagnosis, service, and repair of all major medium/heavy duty truck and heavy equipment components and systems.

PSLO2: Demonstrate correct repair strategies and techniques by applying knowledge of system operation and demonstration of mechanical skills to accomplish repair tasks.
