About the Program

  • Radiography at TCC teaches you how to use X-rays to capture images of the body's interior.
  • You'll learn about anatomy, patient positioning, various X-ray techniques, safe operation of X-ray machines, and patient care.
  • After graduation, you can specialize in areas such as CT, MRI, mammography, cardiovascular technology, quality control, management, or education.
  • You'll collaborate closely with radiologists, medical doctors who interpret X-rays to diagnose illnesses or injuries.
  • You'll complete 45 credit hours of Radiography courses, including lectures and clinical training, along with 22 hours of general education courses.
  • Upon program completion, you'll be awarded an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree.
  • With this degree, you can apply for the Radiography (R) examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Throughout the program, you'll dedicate two to three days per week to clinical training, working eight-hour shifts at an assigned clinical site.

Program Map

The applicant pool for programs in the School of Health Sciences is very competitive. An application does not mean acceptance into the Health Sciences program. Applicants are required to meet with a School of Health Sciences advisor before they apply to a program and may be required to attend an orientation for the Allied Health-related programs. All application correspondence from the School of Health Sciences will be through your TCC email.

Program Goals

Goal #1: Program graduates will pass the registry exam for Radiography administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Student/Graduate Goals

Students will:

  • Operate radiographic equipment and position patients for exams.
  • Deliver appropriate patient care.
  • Identify radiation risks and interpret occupational exposure guidelines.
Goal #2: Program graduates will demonstrate critical thinking & problem-solving skills.

Students will:

  • Evaluate radiographic images.
  • Select appropriate exposure factors.
  • Adapt imaging skills for non-routine exams.
Goal #3: Graduates will demonstrate effective communication skills.

Students will:

  • Communicate effectively with patients.
  • Present oral presentations/case study reports.
  • Use professional terminology.

The mission of the Radiography Program at TCC is to provide an accredited two-year associate degree program that will prepare graduates for a career in the field of diagnostic medical imaging.
